Change my own oil, etc

I've heard these legends as well. To date, nobody has been able to come up with any solid evidence that the "break-in" oil concept is anything other than fantasy. Spectrographic analysis of factory oil fills never show anything special other than elevated wear metals due to the engine's newness.

Some petrolstations used to have a coin operated pump to chnge oil, but they have desapeared. I am wondering where to get those pumps, it is a smart thing sucking oil out through the oil dip stick pipe. So where do you get them?

You could doo that, but the lady or guy from the Govt ckeck does not tell you if some part wil be worn out soon if it pases on his check list.

Also regularly break fluid change and purching of the break system is important.

They have oil drop points. Although, not many.

The real issue is that I would recommend that the OP check the actual price of oil and filters and decide if it is worth it. The problem is that the price of oil in this country is higher than any other country I have ever seen. The garage I use charges me less for a liter of oil than I could buy it for in the shops. I find it is worth letting them charge me 100 francs for doing it cause usually they will top up my car for free when it gets to that point. At least the first time.

I too have had the startled look as I insist on changing my lamps in the lights on my car. The reason is that I "know" I won't touch the envelope of the lamp with my fingers. Neither will I damage the locking mechanism when I do the change over.

I have found that it is a PITA to sort out the oil changing logistics in this country. Not that it is an accident. I have seen more protectionist laws and rules since I have moved here than I ever saw in the US.

On the plus side, most Swiss cars don't spew smoke and drip fluids.

I am so not looking forward to that when I go back.

Good Luck with your oil changing endevours.

Brian.

Surprisingly cheap for Switzerland!!

Forgot to say - the ad. is for a 2.5 litre pump but the picture is the 6000 which is 6 litre - when I bought mine they sent me the 6 litre one

One more thought on this topic.. Oil is a bit cheaper in France. There's also a wider selection of 30-weight oils on the store shelves (everything is xxW-40 here, it seems).

yes it is.

Try Derendinger, they have branches all over Switzerland, www.derendinger.ch
