Has anyone changed their canton of origin or added one? I moved out of my canton of origins 15 yes ago, can't see me ever going back and I was wondering if there is any benefits to this as we approach old age etc.

I, like many people, have never lived in my canton of origin (if you mean Hiematort). I acquired mine from my wife.
There was a time when your Heimatort would look after you in hard times but I don't think that still applies. All they do is maintain family records.
My wife added one when she married me, a whopping 15km away in another canton (she is Zuri-Oberland, despite speaking only Italian, and mine is SG)
The days of having to go to your Heimatort when you are destitute are long over.
Only thing it's useful for these days is you leave the country and want to vote, you have a choice of last place you lived or your Heimatort.
