Cheap option to transfer money from Switzerland to UK?

Hi there,

I'm looking for a cheap option to transfer money from Switzerland to UK. Any ideas?

In need to do a few transfers in the next couple of months, less than £100 each time.

Thanks

Kirabi

We sometimes use WISE. https://wise.com

Would recommend both Wise (formerly Transferwise) and Skrill ( https://www.skrill.com/en/ )

bear in mind the funds have to come from an account in your name - you cannot have funds sent from a pension provider or third party to wise or it will be returned

SEPA.

Are you certain of this? https://wise.com/help/articles/29780…arch-Receiving

Thanks to all of you. I've just used wise (incl a special discount link) and I could easily do the 1st transfer without additional fee but with a good currency rate.

Unfortunately Postfinance wanted to charge me additional 20CHF for one online sepa transfer to the UK. And the transfer amount is less than 100CHF

UBS used to charge me CHF20 to cash a cheque issued by an account holder at their Zürich headquarters branch.

As Tom said :

If not, you could try Revolut (I do know that you will lose some money when transferring into the Revolut account, but after that it should all work out --> do keep in mind that there is a cash withdrawal limit for atm's / month --> after a certain amount you will pay some commissions )

Why would that be?

A CHF transfer (via credit card if smaller, via IBAN if larger) should be free via most decent banks.

Fairly typically, the UK isn't part of SEPA. My bank (BCV) doesn't charge for SEPA transfers, but charges me 6 CHF for transfers in GBP to the UK.

I second that. I only use Revolut for small stuff (hotel bills, restaurants... travel expenses), So far I simply top up my account using Apple Pay via credit cards... no fees I pay.

Definitely no cash advance charges from the credit card? Do they still give you miles/points etc? If they do, would be an easy way to arbitrage the reward scheme.

I’ve been using www.currencyfair.com for years.

Extensively discussed elsewhere. I went through a few options and Wise was easily the 'best' in terms of cost and convenience.

I personally use crypto market (Binance) to send money to a bank account. I pay only 1 euro for it. (of course it will be some fees while converting currencies but as I calculated, it is the cheapest option)

I also use wise and revolut.

Good question. As I really only used it for convenience did I never bothered much about it. Just checked and I can confirm that at least for the lux credit cards I used the last months there were zero fees to use apple pay to "upload" money into my revolut account. I guess for them is apple pay simply a payment service... they dont think of it as a transfer tool. I think I should get myself one of those chashback cards ;-)

Yes , I contacted Wise about pension transfer (i.e not sending from an account in my name) and they said no...

Thanks for getting in touch!

Unfortunately, I see that we currently don't give account details for your CHF currency account to receive money from others— but we’re always looking to add more currencies.

For now, you can get account details for your USD, EUR, AUD, NZD, GBP, HUF, RON, CAD, TRY and SGD currency accounts.

We’re already working on adding more currencies in the near future. Once this change has happened, we will let all of our customers know.
