As I said I don’t know anyone who doesn’t have zero franchise for their kids.
- deductible (Franchise): is generally zero (in which case you only are responsible for the co-pay and that too is capped at 350 (it is possible to increase the franchise, if your insurance offers it, but the cost savings are - so I've heard - marginal and in case of small kids inexistent)
- co-pay (Selbstbehalt): is 10% (only adults who are insured via their employer have no co-pay in case of an accident, if you are a stay-at-home parent, you still have co-pay for an accident). This amount is capped at 350 for kids.
How are invoices paid:
tiers garant: the hospital, doctor, etc. send you the bill, you pay, then submit it to your health insurance who will reimburse you after deducting deductible and co-pay.
tiers payant: the hospital, doctor, etc. send your bill to the insurance, who will pay it and issue you a bill for the amount you owe to the insurance, i.e the deductible and co-pay.
