Most Bars open late (after 8pm) so the question should never arise.
But, on the very rare occasion that maybe a family group has been out for a meal (maybe in the same complex) and want one more before going home, the done thing is to ask the Manager/Barman. Many would say NO WAY! A few might offer a bit of leeway, and allow a half an hour or so.
For my Bar... if it's a Wednesday or Thursday, and I know the people (important), I'd let them stay a little, and I mean a LITTLE. Friday or Saturdays, NO WAY!!! (different crowd around).
I hope this clears it up, there's no set law Swiss wide, it stems back from the old 'Bitz' time, similar to the old Pub set up where families would 'ave a get t'gether an' a neez up.
Absolutely, mostly that it was around 10pm something like this... that's why they left quite quickly afterwards and I felt for them but... bars and babies at night time don't match
late at night time? I don't think so, she would rather wonder what is a baby doing at this time of the night in a bar with a single dad??? he wouldn't have any chances
I don't think the OP was thinking of taking the kids for 15 pints and a vindy afterwards.
There are plenty of cafe bars that welcome families - though some might restrict things once you get into the evening session. For sure in Zurich, I've been to Kennedy's in the afternoon with my wife and son and loads of other places are fine.
In Basel, places like the Unternehmen Mitte are great to take kids to - there is a big open area in the middle where kids can play.
In the end you use your common sense - does the place look look like it will be welcoming to kids.
As far as I'm concerned, a Bar is for later drinks, and open until at least 3 am. Not all bars that open late are strip joints (unless the patrons get a little too jellified).
Langenthal is NOT Zürich ! Bars in Zürich are for drinks and a bit to eat after 12-noon. And nobody was allowed to keep open after midnight. A few minutes before midnight, a policeman entered each bar and each restaurant and loudly proclaimed Polizeischtund and the guests had a last chance to order a last drink. Here again, things were and are different from canton to canton. In Geneva, you could find already in the 70ies and 80ies, bars and restaurants open past midnight, something then unthinkable in Zürich. There however WERE bars in Zürich since WW-I and none of them was open past-midnight
