This may be a dumb question, but I would prefer to check and not assume that how things work in Switzerland.
I rented an apartment, handover and all, while checking for how to control heating and air-conditioning I found no thermostat or a like.
Now it was confirmed to me by the electrician that the system require an internet subscription (cable, wifi access point).
It would have been fine if I need an internet subscription, but the case is that I have a very generous 5G internet subscription with multi sims for all my devices, and I do not wish to pay an extra subscription that I am stack with for 24 months (I still don't know how things will go moving forward).
Once you have a subscription, what connects? Is there some kind of control panel? (You indicate no)
Unless some kind of ethernet cable needs to connect to a router, couldn't you just connect, whatever needs to be connected, to a hotspot from your mobile device?
If you end up needing fixed internet, be advised that wingo and yallo have subscriptions where you can cancel whenever, just with few months notice, eg you're not bound into 2 year contract as a default. Of course, unless the deal is 2 year binding for some extra low price or something.
Everyone seems to be clueless, I requested a documentation/manual, but none provided, the electritian provided some insight by sharing a third party app that I need to connect on iPad, this is nuts though, why would I require to share my personal information and accept some random provider terms just to be able to control the house heating and air-conditionning (aside from security implications)
I was also looking into the option of getting a repeater and connecting that into a hotspot, I would prefer to be not required to use internet for such basic necessity, no one knows what unexpected emergencies happen in the future.
There seems to be no manual system for this, at least no one was able to point me to it.
The app needs to login to the third party provider (DigitalSTROM ) as I was hoping that this would be just a WIFI requirement then just setup the ipad available (provided but not set up), I was able to get the DigitalSTORM name and app name in app store just from the electrician no guides or manuals.
Simplest would be a 5G access point/router (aka MiFi). Get the box, get another SIM card from your provider, put the SIM in, configure WiFi and you're all set.
Depending on the speed you need, a 4G MiFi is available from ~35 CHF.
Indeed you can control the system via phone using the app, but the Home system need to be connected to the internet to get these commands.
There are options to use a router without internet or a repeater to hotspot, but too much of a hustle to setup, or buying a 5G/4G router , I tested internet speed for the 5G in the storage room where the hardware is setup but was very limited and cuts sometimes, and I also was able to connect via an RG45 cable the home system hardware to my laptop and check the dashboard and configuration, some tweaks to the heating as it had some weird planning to reduce temperature at 22h to 23h59,
I just went with fiber network (1GB/s) available at my address and the company is willing to pay for that , Now I will take full advantage of the system.
Waiting now for them internet company to come set it up.
