Coop Supercard App - Collecting Superpoints

I am a bit ashamed to be posting this question - so far can't find the answer on the interwebs.

I installed the Coop Supercard App on Android, connected it up with my Supercard details. Tried the other day at the self checkout terminal to scan the QR code that is displayed in the app (assuming it should be the same as if you scan the plastic one) but nothing registered. So gave up and scanned the plastic one.

Is there something I am doing wrong?

Too proud to ask the spotty teenagers who supervise the self-checkout area.

Sometimes the scanning devices are a bit slow (and they seem to vary in their code scanning abilities). Keep at it, it should register it.

You can use points to pay for your non food purchases at coop city at any time, for certain things in coop supermarkets at certain times ( at the moment you can use points to pay for chocolate for example) and on some weekends you can use points to pay for all your shopping.

You can also use points to buy things from the catalogue (boutique des primes) and you can convert points to money in the app and use that to pay for your shopping. 1000 points gets you 10chf.

If you're a traveler (I'm guessing from the name, you might be Bostonian?), you can exchange them for Miles and More points at a ratio of 1:2 I think. In the good old days you could get return Business Class Meilenschnaeppchen to Boston for 60,000 miles I think it was - hopefully that will return one day and I'll get to see a game at Fenway (went in the Winter break previously so could only do the tour, still pretty cool!).

I installed the app on my teen kid's phone as well. In the app you can also add a digital payment card, I reload it with points (1000 points -> 10 chf) or add money to it at the cashier or self-checkout with my purchase. This way, my kid can get herself lunch or snacks from coop using the digital payment card and I can monitor her spending while not having to worry about paper money.

it is actually a great app/loyalty card. I did not expect to collect that many points.

Before going to the shop spend few minutes to review if there is any good in "bons" area of the app. Quite often I activate +999 points for 100chf spend. That's basically 10CHF discount.

I always have to use the hand scanner to scan the qr code.

OK - sorted. As someone said - you need to hold it by the scanner a bit longer. It worked today.

We have the Cumulus (Migros) and Supercard (Coop).

I’ve heard of people using Cumulus to get through immigration at the airport when they had forgotten their passport.

I guess I’ve never had patience to hold it for long enough. Like Landers I just use the hand scanner.

1. Never be too proud. Think about how good they'll feel about helping that confused elderly pensioner.

2. The scanners are crap. We have women of a certain age womanning our self-checkout area, and that's pretty much what they said to me.

Tl;DR - use the hand scanner.
