Protest march against high housing costs.
Two leftist initiatives on the topic are in the voting ballots for June 14 (even 3, but the third one is from SVP and is about home ownership). What do they want to achieve with the protests?
Lower rents? No forced evictions?
They mentioned Altstetten. The construction of new Limmatal tram line should have made the place unattractive for several years. The tram is ready since 2022, no more dust and noise.
It’s a bit sad that people had to endure the works, and price increases come now. On the other hand, a few years of lower rent doesn’t hurt anyone.
Ha, I just made a test to find the lebel for the German course. A part of the c rest was to read and understand ads. On of them was for a nice and sunny 3.5 room in Zurich. 1’350 a month… the teaching material has not been updated for a long time

And that’s exactly what we are voting on right now. People are going to the street when they have no other means to influence the decision of the government. Luckily, in Switzerland there are more effective options like voting.
Maybe they should have invested more in trying to convince people outside Zurich and Winterthur to vote for their initiatives instead of this demo in Zurich? Zurich will vote for any leftist initiative anyway.
I can bet that it turned out to be dark and mouldy in the end. Also thin-walled and had a family with kids above and old Swiss couple below. And the slot to use a washing machine was every second Tuesday between 10 and 12. And there was a tram line under the windows.
The fortnightly allocated laundry slot takes me back to my OH living in a small studio flat in Kleinbasel when he first came here and I used to visit him and do my Widow Twankey bit. At least the slot was for all day from 8am to 8pm. At the apartment we rented after in Kleinbasel there was a diary in the laundry room where you had to book all your slots out in advance, I used to get Friday mornings. Moving to a place in Grossbasel with its own washtower felt like such a luxury I wasn’t bothered about it having no balcony. The other bonus was the apartment with no balcony was the biggest in the building 
I remember going to one shared with 14+ flats.
My laundry slot would have been something like 1pm-5.30pm every other Tuesday. I remember thinking I have to take time off work once a fortnight to do laundry?!
An ex- had something similar and she had to hire somebody to go on that day to run the laundry…
I nope’d out of there pretty quickly.
For a time during peak conference times (twice a year for 6-8 weeks) when we needed all hands on deck my employer arranged laundry pick-up and delivery, and covered the cost of laundry and dry-cleaning.
They started doing this when somebody observed that for Conferences held away, which happened as often, we could expense hotel laundry and dry cleaners.
Regrettably it wasn’t year round.
As a single, I couldn’t understand the system of having 5h time slot once a week, what I needed was just 5 x 1h time slots throughout the week, so suddenly I had to buy a whole wardrobe of clothes to survive a whole week without doing daily laundry
even worse when I realized that people would wash a ton of fabrics in 1 max 2 rounds, each ~1h, the rest of the time was totally underutilized for the wash machines, but because of a long time slot they hardly ever started on time, more so towards the middle of their time slot
