Are you saying this wouldn’t happen in any other country in the world? Dickhead jumped up managers in retail stores are not really a UK phenomenon.
I’m pretty sure EF of old was chock full of expats lamenting the fact that some jumped up manager had told them not to step above their station in whatever Swiss job they were working at.
At least in the Polish culture it’s more direct and to the point without fluff, and in Switzerland maybe it depends whether it’s French (probably where the Norman influence came to UK) or German?
In any case I was rather curious how a Brit felt shifting from his culture to the Swiss culture, but I find myself defending that it exists in the UK which is not the point
I saw the most outrageous example on holiday: at the hotel, where there are the automated coffee dispensers. a queue of people waiting with cups. maybe 5 people queuing. One lady rocks up and pushes in front of everyone
Over the decades my wife and I have met some really nice people by doing this. We not only ask if we can join, we offer vacant seats to others.
We did this in Dubai on holidays and met a superb mixed anglophobe couple who were about to move to the Geneva area. We remain friends to this day, even though they have moved elsewhere with their work.
Half an hour spent looking at past threads over the years will give you a good insight. You get one Brit utterly losing their tiny mind over the laundry schedule or the bin bag tax or the mythical toilet flush ban after 22H and you get another Brit telling them to get over themselves…
I don’t think there is a “typical” reaction to a Brit moving to Switzerland.
