So much high long dry grass everywhere. Usually they cut it by now. More measures to save money for some useless art exibition?
Don’t know if it still stands but my dad always said that grass shouldn’t be mown in a heatwave.

with this heat, possibly consideration(s) for health concerns? Also echoing ShirleyNot’s post. If cut, grass has to be cut high to leave some leaves. Cutting low will cause the grass to die and weeds will take over faster, even if the grass manages to come back. They tend to mow it pretty low here, from what I have seen.
At my place earlier this week, the gardener came by. He spent over 4 hours push mowing the lawn with a 24" mower and bagged all the cuttings. With a 36-42+ in sit down/zero turn mower with mulching blades, it would have been done in < 45mins, including weed whacking time. So inefficient. I dont understand this.
He had a trailer with the mower and all his other equipment. I dont understand why they do this so manually, still …
Here they are leaving it later to mow the verges etc to aid biodiversity apparently. There are signs up explaining the reasons behind it.

Usually the City of Zurich cuts the very long dry grass on the fields by now. Its collected and used as food for the animals.

the grounds are part of a set of apt buildings. He comes every so often (about once a month?). I would think he got the job based on a bidding process. This would indicate a fixed amount per service for xyz months at pqr intertervals.
Yeah, that’s a good thing. But i am not sure it’s time yet to cut the hay. Plus it’s all dry. Would not make good hay.
Hay is supposed to be dry - so it keeps for the winter.
Farmers are allowed to cut it in Sundays - and do so if rain is forecast for the Monday.

hay has to have certain quality and nutritional value first. it has to be dry before packing/bundling. otherwise mold grows in it.if moldy or bad tasting, animal will not eat it.

Of course silage bales are very different, entertaining and can be scary … the contents are fermented. once fed, drunk and happy cows … drunk and mean/aggressive cows. LOL

ohhh they love it! the heifers loved the grape vine trimming. every time they were in a paddock close to the vines, they tried! the electric fencing was not an issue for them. they are smart. they lick the wires to check first. LOL
Smart would be convincing the dumbass of the herd to lick it for you.
