Depositing piles of coins at the bank and coin counters

Have you ever bought a ticket from Vaud to zurich...RETURN???

Her little piggies better be huge wart hogs. There'd be nothing left to deposit.

you mean they might run away with all those coins??

It's common at UBS that they'll take the money, honestly deal with it later, put it in your account and charge you something like CHF10.- for the service .

It's just how they do things.

Luckily the friendly UBS lady did not disclose that information to me on the day!

I had a similar experience at UBS in Dietikon. I went in with a sack of coins accumulated over the year. They stared at me in disbelief, tossed a bunch of paper coin rollls, and said I should sort them myself. Total and complete disinterest. Then I went across the street to Credit Suisse... similiar story...yes, but we have to ship it all to another center to count..what a load of BULLOCKS.

Then walked across the street to ZKB (in Dietikon they are all right next to one anohter). NO PROBLEM. They took me back and dumped my sack into a coin counting machine...OVER A THOUSAND FRANCS. Gave me a receipt that I could redeem at the counter, NO PROBLEM.

My advise after 23 yrs in Switzerland...DUMP UBS AND CS and go with ZKB.

That is all.

BEKB now have a kids bank account. Not only will they count the coins (for free), but they give the kids a gift for bringing in a full piggy bank. (And it's a cool plush toy elephant piggy bank at that).

Apparently it's to encourage the savings habit in children.

The name of this new kids account - Bimbo!

I have nearly 500 chf in the form of .05, .10, .20 and .50... Need to clear them up before leaving Switzerland...

Thanks to this thread, will rush to Claraplatz (Basel) post office tomorrow...

By the way, I don't understand the concept of "Paper Rolling" of coins, as I never heard it before.... Would any one take the pain to explain it please?

Here is a video that shows the rolling act!

ZKB in Dietikon has a coin counting machine. They just dump all the coins in, and it adds them all up and gives you a receipt which you redeem at the counter for cash. Be careful, though, after a certain limit, I believe 500 CHF or so, they charge a percentage, and not on the amount over the limit, but the ENTIRE sum. So keep it below the limit.

Does anyone who if the Sihlpost in ZH has a self-sorting change machine?

I like the prospect of dumping in all the change, and don't like the thought of rolling up tons of coins in paper.

Thanks.

pretty sure it doesn't, got roll and they tutt if it's not neat.

I could do without tutting staff there; they may even go postal on me!

Hi MoeCat, today my husband went to Claraplatz post office to dump coins (for first time). But he couldn't find any such machine there and the "Die Post" employee helped him to roll the coins (ahh I hate that and so are in search of dumping machine) and asked him to do it at home from next time.

Any one knows where dump machine available in Basel, please?

All the machines have disappeared it seems

This morning I went to the "big post" at HB and got tutted at for untidy rolls and those ones were from the bank, little tubes.

The reason I am posting is I have been folding, rolling and sticking rolls and chasing coins around the floor for the last hour. Much to the enjoyment of others

I have watched the video it does not help me question am I allowed to use sticky tape ..

Unfortunately, I think you will be tutted for tape.

I find the video pratzabrat87 posted a bit misleading, as it shows a USA method. As far as I know, the method here is different - you fold one end up and in, and then line up the coins and roll.

I found a German video on Youtube which shows - very badly filmed - how it's done. Sorry, commentary only in German. But it might give you a bit of a better idea of how to deal than the US version...

Thanks the.frollein

I'll see if I can remove the tape and hope they hold.

The video helps but it is still a fiddly operation

I have a few hundred francs in change. what do I do with it now. are there counting machines or what. I really don't want to go to the bank with a bag of change......

I'll take it off your hands if you wish.

Even if you take it to the bank or PO they'll tell you to wrap it up in special rolls and send you on your way...

If you have a Credit Suisse account, they usually have a machine you can dump the change directly into.

This goes straight into your account.

This is how I have a cracker of a new years (dumping the schrapnel out of my wallet, collecting it, cashing it in before New years).

we just take ours to the bank , they charge i think 1 or 2 % to count it , then the next day its in your account ......its what they are there for ....you know Banking
