Deutsch B1 exam

Well done you!!!

Congrats

That's probably advisable anytime, you're inviting comments not just on your own corrections but also on other stuff, and you're demonstrating the level of detail you're paying attention to (that is currently within your grasp).

Plus, your correction may actually be wrong or additional stuff may warrant consideration

Well done on passing.

I also have my A2 certificate now. Incredibly I got 58.5 out of 60. Just lost 1 point of reading and half on speaking. Like I said, probably was ok to do B1, but I was being cautious as only needed A2 for the C permit. Now....maybe I should think about B1 anyway....

Hey, well done to you, too dmarkd!

Update

I did my B1 exam last week. All went well till I had to

speak. I messed up badly. I think I probably failed.

Not looking forward to the result!! Need to to more German

conversation!

If that's the case, can you just take the speakîng part again? My German teacher told me that if you fail a section, it may be possible to just repeat that section rather than the whole exam. It may be worth looking into

Watch lots of teli for a while. Hearing it will help you speak it too.

(Choose the German channels as you probably hear enough Swiss German around here )

This morning I noticed: When I am sad, I think in German.

You're sure you want to learn this language?

I went to the Basel immigration office to see what I needed in order to apply for citizenship. The woman said that I would have to have my B1 certificate - full proof of my linguistic abilities

She suggested Goethe or TELC. I contacted Goethe and I was informed that they do not give the B1 written test to adults.

My next call will be to TELC, but from their website it looks like they only offer the test twice a year: January and June.

Does anyone know if there are other options out there? I am assuming that there are more than two options accepted by Basel Stadt, but I admittedly haven't gone back to them to ask.

The BS website says A2 written and B1 oral. I could be wrong but I *think* that means you only need an A2 certificate and the B1 they determine based on how you do in the interview.

The list on the website says you can do a cantonal Sprachstandanalyse (SSA), Telc, Goethe, ÖSD, or fide. I've heard of the middle three (those are the only ones accepted for Zurich) but I don't know anything about the cantonal SSA or fide. Thankfully the site hotlinks all of them:

SSA: http://www.buergergemeindebasel.ch/d...hstandanalyse/

Telc: https://www.telc.net/

Goethe: https://www.goethe.de/de/index.html

ÖSD: https://www.osd.at/

Fide: https://www.fide-info.ch/

And here's the BS web page for naturalization in case you want to look up anything else: http://www.bdm.bs.ch/Einbuergerung/I...tion3_section3

Good luck with your application!

OMG, I'm an idiot. Yes, I had the two mixed up.

Well, that should make things easier - I would HOPE that I can pass an A2 test by now

Thank you also for all of those great links - and the well wishes!

Same requirements in Zug - and its exams for both, not interview based. However Zug migration department organises a "mixed" A2/B1 exam a couple of times a year for precisely this purpose. Maybe BS does too? (or maybe Zug are (1) welcoming of migrants (2) sloshing in money )

I think it‘s this one:

Zürich has similar - they call it the KDE.

I just did the regular B1 - I did an eight week exam preparation course at Migros Klubschule - and arranged to do the tests at the end. The course was well worth doing just to get my confidence up, and they structure the study material around the format of the exams.

Also leading up to the exams, I found on the Stadt Zürich website a series of historical walks in and around the city with downloadable maps and MP3 audio guide which I made use of, just to, just to get my hearing comprehension up - and to learn useful stuff about the history of Zurich with which I impressed at my citizenship interview a year later.

I need to find time now to buckle down and do the B2. A fee days after the citizenship came in, I got an inch-thick wad of voting material in the post whch I managed to read through and vote on, but realised my Germsn needs a bit of a boost.

Cheers,

Nick

I really like that idea. I'll have to see if there's something like that for Basel

Update

I passed the B1 exam!! I am delighted!!!i should have more confidence

in myself!!! I averagd 77!!!

Congratulations!

There is an app - iTour Basel - which has a spoken guide to the different city tours - those ones wirh little blue plaques marking the route like Erasmus, Holbein etc.

It looks good, but I don't have an iPhone

However, you have inspired me to do a search to see what's out there for Android.

EDIT: oooh, this looks interesting! baselconnect.ch/archaeology

what's the 5 point structure???

The same app is on Android.
