Do campsites need to be pre-booked?

Managed to book a few trips for May June July .. So there are still places out there..

Looking forward to trying the big camping village near Lugano in summer.

...which is actually nearer to Locarno than Lugano, on lake Maggiore rather than lake Lugano nearly 40kms away.

Do you book fully fitted tents or take your own?

Throughout the year we do a mixture of both.. Taking the big tent in summer .. Usually in April / Sept we book a static caravan / chalet / pre made tent or something but when it's warmer we take the tent.

Just depends .. Taking all the tent stuff can be a pain for a night or two but it can also get some of the best spots on the camp sites.

In which case our meadow if available, with BBQ, WCs, a kitchen and a big room to play in.

TBH, the idea of camping in your meadow sounds like the plot from some B horror movie.

Could you enlighten me on this one, please Your prerogative of course. just would like to understand, ta.

I just have these images in my mind of scenes from "American Werewolf in London", "Friday the 13th" and "The Shining". Right before bed, I picture looking up at the house and see Norman Bates' mother looking at me from a little window. Chilling really.

Oh I see. Well you enjoy your sci fi- and you are very welcome to decline the offer, 100%.

Our bedroom windows don't overlook the meadow, btw- only trees and ... meadows... the odd cow (no no, not this one) and the odd horse or two. Sometimes deer and foxes come to drink in the water trough, we have seen a badger once too and ermines and hares.

It's very kind of you .. However my kids want water slides, climbing walls, discos at night, you know..Other kids to meet and make tik-tok videos with etc..

That and a bar and takeaway keeps me sane.. We've got a bunch of these booked now until July .. No doubt more to come for Aug/Sept.

I was more thinking : (name that famous house)

What people love here, kids and all, is that there is nothing like that- just tons of space, can make as much noise as they want- and plenty or decent restaurants all around. Great scenery, walks, luge and fat wheel scooters down the road. Not for everyone - for sure.

Campofelice is great! We spent a week and a half there two summers ago and are thinking about going back again in late July / early August if any spots are open. The standard-sized pitches are huge there, which is really nice, so you don't have to be right up against your neighbor.

We booked it already for July .. Planned to take the tent anyways but I also checked their accommodation and it was all full .. Pitches only and standard pitches only, no premium. So gonna be pretty busy.

But hey .. Good to hear a good review.. Looks good!

We have super, extra, +++++ sizes and prices that can't be beaten either ahahaha. I like my sardines at the end of the tent ropes, perso

Each to their own, hey.

Thanks for the heads-up on that. I just checked their availability again, on their website, and it does look like they're getting booked up very quickly. We better get our butts in gear and try to get something booked ASAP.

If you find yourself having any questions about the place, feel free to send me a PM, as maybe I'd have the answer.

What's it like at night - quiet or noisy?

... here you might get an owl or a fox but it is blissfully quiet, and no light pollution whatsoever either.

It's very quiet at night. Campers there are supposed to stay quiet after 10 pm, and they really seem to be very good at following that rule. There are a lot of families there, so people seem to keep any noise low and at their own campsite and respect that kids are asleep in the other tents and campers, etc. It's a very "family friendly" atmosphere there. They don't even allow cars to drive through the campground after 9 or 10 pm.
