Do you know anyone who thinks he's an Eidgenosse?

American Indians also have immigrant roots, in fact everyone who doesn't live an Africa (and many that do) have immigrant roots.

Tom

plus he is swiss by birth, not by papierli/passport/immigrated and then applied for swiss citizenship.

my ex-co-worker really thought she is an eidgenosse. on her facebook page she joins all the svp-themed groups like: i speak swissgerman. foreigner-free snow pistes n stuff. she said "nice that we have won against spain, but id be happier when a real swiss and not n'kufo had scored. the whole team isnt swiss. inler, yakin...etc...its shi.t ."

and i was like

ah, and she is from einsiedeln...innerschwyz-> real switzerland

Any idea which party she votes for?

Then what's the point of this thread? Why isn't it explained to the Swiss that they really all come from Africa. In fact why stop at Africa? Before that we were electrical charges or dust with the BIG Bang then we were all fishes and then we were all monkeys etc. Of course there are some here who can trace their lineage all the way back to Adam and Eve. To them I apologize.

It is not just the Swiss who need to get to grips with those facts. There are 'supremacists' all over the place- including the US and UK.

The thread is about the shock' of discovering that for some Swiss, this olde Eidgenosse concept still nurtures supremacists ideas of grandeur nowadays.

Wait a minute -- you were the limping waiter with the festering boil on his thumb, right?

I understand - the first human culture to live in a country. The same with Australia - the real Aussies are Aboriginals. Everyone else is a migrant from 1788 when Australia was "discovered".

Some countries have royalty, Switzerland has the Eidgenossen.

You may call me Meine Hoheit Olygirl. I will bless you with the waters of the Vierwaldstättersee and the oath, Einer für alle, alle für einen.

I thought Dartagnan was French?

Gesundheit!

Finally. Someone who understood the point without mentioning they can trace their ancestry back to the first Cromagnons or Neanderthals. Thank you Sidney2. Geez!! Wow!!!

I believe many of us share a Celtic ancestry not quite so far back as Cromagnon

Perhaps that is why I am an open-minded Swiss- because I am 3rd rate. Dad of Huguenot descent, born in Neuchatel which was the last Canton to join the Confederation (we were Prussians until then , yes I know, a long story - everybody loved French then)- and married to a Brit. Pheeeeeeeeeeew I am glad I am not one of them Eidg.. thimmigig doodah.

Officially, in German, you are an Eidgenossin
