Does a UK/CH dual national need both passports to travel to UK and back to CH?

Hmm. I’ll be flying to the UK today with my kids who are dual UK/FR nationals.

We will be using the UK passports both ways. Kids have a C permit, but I noticed on their C permit the card only says national of FR.

Last time returning, the border check got shirty with me as I didn’t have the FR passport.

Does anyone know if it is a requirement to have the FR passport with the C permit? I’d supposed that with the UK passport to prove identity it would be OK. Heck, is a passport even needed to return to Switzerland or is the C permit enough?

Sounds like it’s linked to the FR passport so I’d take it along. To be honest, I have both passports with me when I travel anyway, just in case. Then they can take their pick of whichever one they want at whichever border.

You’re re-entering Schengen which should always be done with the Schengen passport (for Schengen nationals).

Maybe I can dig up their French ID cards…

ID cards work fine…except you then have to go through the manned gates and not the e-gates for the passport check. Usually not a major delay for Schengen passport holders though.

I have to use them anyway. In Basel you have to be over 16 to use e gates.
