Anybody know where to get a slingcatcher in switzerland?

Just hooked up the sling box and started using it in Oerlikon. I have cablecom Fiber power 100, running it through my mac laptop. Box is located back in Montreal.

I have it set to the highest quality and so far, so good. Not choppy at all. Unfortunately, the HD streaming is worthless.

I connect my laptop directly to the LCD tv through a mini display port to HDMI connector. I would say it is pretty much like watching tv in standard definition. There is a lag when you are controlling the remote control, so If you are into channel surfing you may get frustrated.

Good news is I can now watch the football game today. GO PATRIOTS!!!!

Uh oh

I signed up for the NFL Gamepass package and it is fantastic. I can watch the game in HD on my 52" LCD in perfect quality. Even better, for the late games I can watch them a day later without commercials!

Is slingcatcher available in Switzerland? If not, what do you need to hook up your laptop to your TV? Is there something specific yoru TV needs to have to accomodate the connection from your laptop? If so, does every TV have this or do I need to look for something specific if I were to go out and buy a new TV?

Thanks!

So, does this mean that I buy a slingbox in Canada and then connect it to the internet by plugging it in the wall (either phone jack or the cable plug). Or maybe I plug it into my TV in Canada. I turn the box on and leave it on. I fly back to Switzerland and then I download the Sling box software and then I can watch Canadian TV on my computer. If I want to watch it on my digital TV, then I buy the sling catcher and the sling catcher plugs into my TV and picks up the digital signal coming from my wireless router.

What if I have a TV recorder in Canada? How do I control the recorder in Canada from Switzerland? Sorry for the dumb questions.

Hook up slingbox in canada to pvr. You access it here through the web. You have complete control to turn box on off in Canada through the web.

We finally got our SlingBox set up in the US at a family member's house and had been watching on our laptop for the last week. A relative brought out a sling catcher from the US to hook up to our TV this week and it is awesome! We do not need our laptop hooked up to the TV or anything. The SlingCatcher works on it's own with an internet connection and even comes with a remote. We can also still work on our laptop with other applications while watching SlingBox on the TV.

Anyone know if there is a way to get the picture clearer? On both the laptop and TV it's a little fuzzy -- not complaining as I am happy to have US TV here but wondering if there is a fix?

could slingbox work with Mac? Is it complicated to install?

My husband is a big fan of Mac and my work history makes me a PC person. It seems a lot of software/device working with PC better in terms of installation (not counting the frequency of machine hanging time of PC )

Yes it works with macs the slingmedia help line is very good if you have problems with config or installation

yes sling player works with mac... but if you have the slingbox PRO-HD you can't watch in HD unless you go to sling.com and watch it that way. And the only internet browsers currently supported are Safari & Firefox. (no Chrome yet)

Also the mac version will not allow you to have a 60min recorder. only the windows version has this. this allows you to pause or backup what you have watched via slingplayer for the past 60 min. and it does't matter if you change the channel. your 60 min delay WILL NOT start over.

I have every version of the Slingbox since 2005. i also have a slingcatcher. and have or had slingplayer for iphone & blackberry. if anyone has ANY questions I can deintiely answer them.

FYI. slingplayer for iphone no longer has the 3G restriction as of the 15th of this month. you can now sling over you mobile carriers 3G network.

Hi there!

So, we also have a slingbox (classic) and it works great on my work laptop, even via an aircard. Also on our home I-mac and mrs D's mac book AND on our TV via a slingcatcher.

I am however interested in the iphone App. - I understand that this does NOT work with the slingbox classic - is that right?

Thanks

D

Actually the slingbox classic works fine with all versions of the slinngplayer for iPhone including the new version 1.3. You will just get a warning saying "this slingbox is not supported..." just click ok and it connects to it just fine.

most helpful!

Thanks. This is the rather expensive app that's like USD25 or something... hence why I wanted to check before paying up....

A relative in Canada has agreed to buy a slingbox and connect it to a DVR/cable box in Canada.

I've downloaded the slingplayer software on my mac laptop here in Switzerland. The slingbox is not bought yet but I just wanted to get a feel for how hard it will be to set this up.

My computer here is receiving internet wirelessly through a Swisscom modem/router. Is it a problem that my internet streaming is through a router that is already bringing in the Swisscom channels!?

Second Question: One day, I want to get a Slingcatcher so I can watch the programs on my TV here. My TV is currently physically attached to my Swisscom modem/router to get the Swisscom channels. Is this going to pose a problem with the SlingCatcher? Do I have to buy another router (generic)?

Last Question: How do I know that the resolution will be fine? I have no way of testing this before I purchase everything, Is there a way of checking what speed my wireless internet is in in my home? (I know the speed in Canada will be fast enough.)

Thanks for the help. I just don't want to invest all that money into a slingbox and cable tv and internet fees in Canada to find out it won't work here.

The set up on your friend's end is a little more time consuming but not difficult. They will need an internet connection near their TV or the Sling Box. If they do not have one, than they need an additional Sling Box component. There is a toll free # to call when setting up for free for techincal support. We actually have our Sling Box not hooked up to a TV back in the States, it is just hooked up to an additional cable DVR box and the internet. So a TV is not required necessarily.

No & No --, you can do 1 of 2 things...buy a ethernet splitter, available at Media Mart for 40 swiss francs or manually unplug the Swiss Com internet connection and plug in the Sling Box internet connection when in use.

You can Google a site to test your connection here. I have fiber optic and the resolution on my laptop is better than the TV b/c the screen is smaller. The resolution on the TV is not perfect like you would see back home but it's good enough in my opinion to invest in it if you want to watch TV from home. Good luck!

I don't think I will go the "manually" unplug route as I will still sometimes want to view the channels from Swisscom without too much hassle. I'm just confused where the ethernet splitter will be attached. Does it go in the Swisscom Cable box or does it go into the Swisscom modem/router box?

Right now, I have my TV connected to the Swisscom cablebox (husband thinks it's an HDMI cable). Then, there is a wire that fits into ethernet ports in the Swisscom cable box and this wire runs to my Swisscom modem/router box and fits into an ethernet port.

When I get my slingcatcher, where does it plug into exactly? I thought it would plug into my TV directly through HDMI or something and pick up streaming from my swisscom modem/router. This was just a guess on my part. I think what you've said tells me the Slingcatcher will eventually plug into both my TV and the modem/router?

The splitter has 2 ends...one is a single ethernet cable that plugs into the wall and the other 2 ends that "split apart" go to the Sling Catcher & your Cable Box. The Sling Catcher uses the audio/video inputs/outputs into the TV and the Cable Box uses something different into the TV. You just cannot have your DVD player hooked up at the same time unless you buy another splitter, but I am unfamiliar with that process. Hope this helps.

Oh and nothing plugs into our Swiss Com modem wireless router - that is in a separate room. So we have a hard wire internet connection coming from our wall. We are in a newer building so this may or may not be an option for you. If not, than you would probably plug into your modem box if it's near your TV.
