Dog is incontinent - ideas and experience of treatments

How do you get a urine sample from a female? I've done it with a male dog which was fairly easy, but when she sits down to pee close to the ground.... any tips?

I use a lid shallow plastic container, long and narrow. I walk out with my dog, as soon as she starts to squat I slip the container under from behind (so that she doesn't see me.)

You only need a few ml for testing, so even if the dish startles Ebby it's likely that you will have collected enough by the time she notices.

A friend swears by a long handled ladel, but I've never tried that. The shallow plastic dish gives you more collection area so you don't have to be too accurate.

The first morning's urine is the best for testing, and since she will have a full bladder and will need to go soon after heading outside, it's often easiest to collect then.

Good luck!

My vet simply poked a needle straight into my dog's bladder, through ultrasound check to be sure it was perfectly accurate. This is relatively painless and quite effective.
