Downhill/Freeride Mountain Bike Days

im not so cannondale fan, maybe another santacruz or specialized, i need to see what the wife will say she say 2 bike its to much and now we have 3

hey i have no idea what's good and what's not

would just love 140mm travel both ends, around 11kg or lighter, a great allrounder and one that won't break the bank

so far seems I'm asking too much or my bank is too small and thus easily broken

11kg is farkin light for a 140mm bike. The closest that comes to mind is the Scott Genius. The top of the line one has 150mm front and back and weighs somewhere around 11kg.

My 140mm bike weighs 12.5kg in its original spec, I usually have it set up weighing a bit more then that though. For an all mountain bike weight isn't everything. If you are not racing up the hill, then you can afford to have some heavier parts to make the bike better value for money and a bit more durable.

Look at it this way... the price jump from XT to XTR or X9 to X0 stuff is nearly double for a saving of a few grams. This is stuff that breaks if you use the bike hard. I rather a slightly heavier bike where I pay 100CHF for a new dérailleur if I break it, instead of 200CHF for the X0 which is only 20g lighter!

Reminds me of the old saying "Light, strong & low-cost. You can only have two of them together"

i agree with all you said - i was kinda puttin out a ridiculous - "what i want" list

i know one thing though - the difference between the XC (RZ 140) and downhill

(moto) c****dales is SIGNIFICANT!!! so I definitely don't want a downhill bike - a XC for sure

hell honestly it's all speculation until next year...

and i've no idea what's out there available...

Do some research now, as the end of season/winter season clearance sales will be starting very soon.

I wouldn't consider a 140mm travel bike XC, you are firmly in all mountain/trail category there. The head angle and seat angle will play a role in which way it is biased.

here is somthing that can be good for u

There are 2 additional things to bear in mind. X0 is fully servicable and all the components can be replaced individually. This means that you can clean it properly which extends the life and additionally if you break one half of the cage then you just replace that. The second is that X0/XTR look far sexier. Is it worth double the price - probably not. But there's always some mug ( ) who will buy it!

At least no-one is contemplating Yumeya components . Check out the fantastic weight savings to be had here . CHF157 will save you 7g from your derailieur cage. Alternatively, you could cut your toe nails.

once again i manage to get my size 45 in my mouth

XC vs All Mountain - hell I don't even know the difference!!!

guess i'm looking for the "one bike to rule them all"

at the moment just lovely dreams...

You want a 140-160mm travel all mountain bike then.

They don't need to break the bank. Keep an eye out and you will find something for sure.

I think that one bike to rule them all would be the Giant Reign.

http://www2.giant-bicycles.com/en-US....0/3899/37071/

I have the Trance which is one model down (suspension travel) and I love it. It climbs like a goat and bombs down the hill with confidence. I had a chance to demo the Reign and couldn't tell the difference between the Reign and my Trance. (except when descending which the Reign was able to soak up more bumps) There is a reason why the maestro suspension is considered one of the best, cause it works and it works great. Plus buying a Giant wont break the bank even with top shelf components. My next all rounder will be the Reign, after I abuse my Trance a few more years, its 3 years old now and not a single problem, except when I go downhilling which is why I bought a Scott Gambler but thats another love story.

just to share something i found on a tour near steffisburg:

mmmm tres sexy

La Pierre Zesty 514

140mm travel all mountain... have to start saving my rappens

Try the Spicy for size.

anyone up to sign in and race the gurten classic next weekend?

http://www.gurtenclassic.ch/default.asp?m=81

They've got that race all wrong!!! There is more up then down in it. And it finishes by the start of the freeride trail and according to the rules you are not allowed to use the freeride trail to get back down to the bottom!

So you bust your lungs and legs to get to the top, and you don't get to enjoy the ride back down!.

i think one can easily take a well deserved rest in the restaurant, peel the number off and go down after a while.. there's no chance they could tell you were part of the race an hour after is over.

and about the climb, well thats what i like so im happy to see its more up than down. And i'm hoping to make it around the half of the pack tbh.

a friend raced the LaPierre XC 510 in the Jeantext Transalp this year and his mate has the XC 710

I figure if the XC 510 with 100mm travel is sufficient for this race then the zesty should be overkill for my needs

why go the spicy? honestly i find it hard to work out the difference apart from suspension travel

xc 100mm - zesty 140mm - spicy 160mm

is that it or do i miss something???

is it the longer the travel you get the closer you get to down hill focussed bikes?
