Driving age limit - foreign visitor

A friend is coming to visit this summer.

They need to get to a remote place here in Switzerland

I have a car

They are 19 yrs old,

Have a driver's license from the USA

confident and comfortable driver

Is it legal for them to drive my car?

--- if they are alone (they need to get somewhere and I will not be joining)

--- If I'm in the car (I need a break and offer them to drive)

18 is the age, so 19 is fine.

Tom

But check your insurance as many have as standard a "no drivers under 25" clause, if you have not already included a younger driver.

B

This.

Every policy I've had in CH has had this clause...

I've never had this clause, the only clause that I've had is that under 25 have a higher deductable.

Subject to the insurance, no problem if he drives in Switzerland, but I'm not sure of the legality if he takes the car over the border for any reason as non Swiss driving Swiss registered card have had problems with customs.

Same. 1000 francs as opposed to 100.

Yes, referring to the accident my son had, we had to pay CHF 1,000 of the total claim as he was only 21.

Only if they reside in the EU.
