Sorry if this is a dumb question. I've actually spend quite a bit of time reading and don't have an answer.
Background: My employer (USA corp) is forming a Swiss subsidiary in Zug to act as our European HQ, and is applying for a B permit so that I (USA citizen and resident) can come over and run it. I intend to live in Luzern. I expect to receive a permit if quota is still available as it is a long-established company with a good reputation. My intention is to build out a European HQ by hiring employees who already live in the area, presumably mostly Swiss citizens.
Question: My French country manager (French citizen residing in western France) would like to move to Geneva. How hard is this, both from his standpoint and that of the employer? I'm going through the process of applying for a non-EU permit and I would describe it as easy for the employee but moderate-to-difficult for the employer. How hard would this one be?

And why living in Lucerne where taxes are much much higher than in Kt Zug.
Most complicated will be to find an apartment in or around Geneva.
US nationals do not benefit from varying tax rates between cantons/towns as they must top up the difference to the IRS in order to satisfy their US tax obligations anyway.
Also much easier to find housing in Lucerne than ZG.
Thank you all for the help. Yes, I have found the process of getting the permit to be difficult - the work is on the employer side but I have done most of it. And, until I have it I am still concerned I won't get it. I only feel confident because the lawyers keep telling me it's a strong application.
LimegrassZwei is correct, in the end, US citizens pay whichever rate is higher, USA or Swiss. Luzern will be a bit higher than my USA tax rate. Zug is great and the tax rate would be a bit lower than my USA tax rate - but I believe Mrs Greenshoes will be happier in Luzern, and it looks easier to find an apartment.
