Dumping White Goods

Dear All

I hope this is the right place to ask this. I have an old fridge, dishwasher and cooker to dump. Not replacing with like so can't get them taken away when the replacement is delivered. Local decheterie doesn't seem to take these items.

Does anyone know how i can dispose of them?

There are recycling centers that accept these items at a cost. Be ready to pay for their disposal. Perhaps there is a center nearby?

By the way, I'm relieved you didn't mention white stools.

You can return those goods for free to any shop that sells them. The cost of recycling is included in the price when you buy new. See here for further info:

Why not? Even if what's being delivered is a fridge and dishwasher and what needs to be taken away is a washing machine, there really isn't any harm in asking if they can do the removals at the same time. As was already said, the shop is required to accept the items for recycling, which was paid for at the time of purchase.

It will cost you though.

This from Fust (I don’t recommend Fust – this is merely an example of common practice)

  1. Stockwerklieferung ohne Montage

  3. floor delivery without assembly
The goods are delivered to the desired floor, basement or flat. The unpacking of the appliance as well as the disposal of the packaging material and the transport of the old appliance are not included in the delivery flat rate (CHF 99.- / 104.- one specialist / CHF 146.- / 145.- two specialists). There will be no assembly or disassembly work.

  4. floor delivery with assembly
The goods are delivered to the desired floor, basement or flat. Unpacking, assembly, installation on existing infrastructure that complies with legal requirements and commissioning of the appliance as well as disposal of the packaging material and old appliance are included in the delivery and assembly flat rate. Fust may charge for the return transport for the disposal of the old appliances.

But you can dump the old goods free at any Fust outlet, even if you don’t buy from them:

Yes, theoretically any shop selling household appliances should take them back for recycling. But, I don’t see myself carrying an old fridge to dispose it in a Fust inside a shopping mall

@Vertedee: after checking recyclingmap.ch this place looks quite convenient. Load the stuff to dispose in the car, drop it from the car in there and that’s all.
https://www.tricycling.ch/dienstleis…ung-recycling/

If you look at their offered services, it seems they take houselhold appliances (haushaltgeräte) at no cost. https://www.tricycling.ch/dienstleis…ung-recycling/

You won't have to. There'll be a loading/unloading bay outside the shopping mall.

Carefully hidden away without signs.

Totally doable, but this is next level in navigating around Switzerland Asking shop assistant about the location of this place, finding the right place, not parking in the wrong place.

Compare that to driving to recycling place, and drop the stuff under the big sign.

How does the TAR work? (Anticipated Recycling Tax). The retailer collects it but what happens then? Do they keep it or submit to a central fund? When accepting stuff for recycling do they receive something from that fund. Also do the déchetteries have access to said fund?

It depends: According to the law a retailer can either be responsible himself for recycling stuff or he can join an association (e.g. https://www.erecycling.ch/ ) in which case he pays the TAR forward to the association and gets reimbursed for his activities, while the recycling center gets paid, etc.
https://www.fedlex.admin.ch/eli/cc/1…7_827/de#art_5

If your local recycling/waste center enters into a contract with the association they will be compensated for their activity (and the collected goods will be picked up).

Don’t do this !
