Early lunch

None of the above but you may be malnutritioned

Naw, not so much. Just a little...

I did the same before I moved here, though. I was glad I got out of work to have a quick lunch around 3 or 5pm, too close to start wrapping up for the night, though, so I'd skip. Work was too intense. Plus a giant cheap goulash kills my cerebral skills for the day.

I like the difference here, over organized social setting, where people politely chow down on their home made thingies. I love seeing what they eat, they watch me, too. Sometimes they team up, and make lunches for eachother. And there are jokes to try to understand, etc. Fun.

A quick glance at my gut shows that this is unlikely to be the case

i find i can forgo lunch if i take a coffee instead. but then i get hungry later on in the afternoon.

Lunch is not at 11:30. That's brunch! Personally I'd just be anti social. It's just not good for you to try to stuff yourself to eat lunch with your colleagues if you are not hungry.

Actually, it might not be a bad idea to eat lunch at another time. You might actually meet people from other departments. Don't forget: It's not what you know, it's who you know! Go forth & meet those people who eat lunch at 1:30.

Lunch is for wimps

But GG is a guy but Brunch is only a girl's meal (@1min 30secs) :

I think that Swiss School kids have to start so early compared to the UK where you're from, so the parents also get up at an ungodly hour also.

If you go for an early lunch, I think you will end up turning to the dark side and start brushing your teeth in the office washroom as well.

Brunch isn't just for girls, but it is for weekends . . .

On the subject of brunch etc.

When I worked for one of the large banks in London, their canteen cooked a pretty good full English breakfast. That meant we were perfectly happy to start early and have breakfast meetings. You could still get things like sausages sandwiches through to about 11.00, so a late breakfast/brunch was often the way things went.

I'm not that happy eating pasta with some overcooked meat covered in an industrial demi-glace at 11.30. IMHO this is not worth beating the crowds for.

droool. you reminded me of friday sausage in a bun breakfasts at a former company. fat oozing out of it, and enough butter to block several major arteries... yum.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Seriously, if they don't serve brunch in some form or other make new work friends!

"elephant seal in a glasgae chippie" will keep me chuckling all afternoon.

Aaahh, whatever happened to 'doing whatever you want when it comes to lunch'. Be anti-social and explain to your team that occasionally you may join, but otherwise, you may elect to eat when you are hungry. No worries. Opps, hang on, I forgot which country I was in!

Talk a bit with some of your team. And you will find people who traditonally had lunch after 12.30. If there are Italians in your team they most likely even were used to have lunch after 01pm !

The 11.30 thing comes from the fact that people in many places want to be in the canteen before everything is full

your colleague knows that at 1.30 pm, the rush will be over, seats available again, etc

i'm anti-social too having it at 13.30-14.00...

and yes, everyone goes at 12.00

Guys, another question "Lunch vs. being antisocial"...

I have already started my new job. I go for a lunch at 12 with my collegues. It's good to socialise a little bit, I feel more confident when I have to ask somebody for a help (as I am new and there is still many things I have to learn) when we work, I know "who is who", it is nice to talk about something different than job only and so on...

Ok, sometimes it's too early for me, sometimes there is so many people there I am not hungry any more after seeing them, sometimes people forget they have a break and they keep on talking about job only. But I'm still ok with all that because I'm new and still really enthusiastic about everything.

There is one guy. He doesn't go with us. His wife prepares a lunch box for him, he puts it in microwave and has his lunch on his own. He says his wife is a better cooker and it is cheaper. I think it's quite logical explanation but when I read that thread I started wondering... How can it affect working relationships? Do you think it really can when it comes to important decisions at work which are not based on regulations, schedules, etc. but this kind of feeling "I like to work with him/her or not"? I'm not asking beacuse I'm afraid about my career and I want to prepare my own lunch box (I'm too lazy for that ) but just wondering how it works at your place?... anyway, I'll keep an eye on that guy.

Cheers!

I normally go running at lunchtimes - work is close to the Altstetterwald so there are plenty of possibilities for different routes; and there is a shower room in the basement so no problems there. It's a chance to get away from drudgery of office life for an hour or so.

For food I normally bring some bread or a salad I made at home which I consume at my desk after I've got back from my run; and I have some fruit mid-morning to keep me going. Other times if we have some kind of casserole or curry at home, I freeze any leftovers in portion-sized boxes. These I can take to work and microwave if I want something warming. The only thing is the coffee area where the microwave is situated is not at all well ventilated so I am a bit conscious of cooking smells pervading the office. Too bad the company doesn't provide better breaktime facilities.

Now and again I join colleagues for lunch - though the canteen food where I work is not always to my taste; I am not a big fan of mass catered food.

Cheers,

Nick

In my office, everyone goes to get lunch at 12. Except for me because I don't eat anything until like 3-4 PM. I think I was out for lunch with the others like twice in 2 years, and only when they said 'this time we go to a nice restaurant, wanna come?'. They think I am a weirdo I guess but I am just not hungry.

I am sure though it effects the do-I-like-himher thing but nobody would really admit that. Honestly, I am not gonna be uptight and uncomfortable 5 days a week. If this is what makes them keep me at my job then screw it.
