Ebay.ch or Ricardo.ch

For use in Switzerland exclusively ricardo is surely the better choice as they have a larger user base and more active community.

In case you would like to buy and sell internationally, there's no other way than ebay!

I would not use Ricardo, or Ebay (I would not even think about it). I find Anibis.ch, or tutti.ch good, and both are free, fast and better than Ricardo by far.

Ricardo was good, but is getting very greedy, the charges are too much! Lets help people that give a service for free or a reasonable price.

Dear Scott,

if you are still lucky with Ricardo.ch, perhaps you'd be so kind to share the experience. I don't know neither French nor German, but registered in ricardo & started placing items for bids (thanx to google translate mainly: )))

first 5 or so were free (I didn't choose any options that are under the payment). But now when I am trying to publish, lets say 5th item, they put some minor (30 cents)fee for publishing.

Despite I am still not choosing any payable options.

Could you please, perhaps, clarify: do they have the fixed fee for placing new bids? I really hoped the service could be free: )))

thnx in advance,

N.

Ricardo.ch looks good, but unfortunately its not in English (only down side). Ebay is always good in any language,

I find when it's Swiss stuff I'm after that Ricardo has way more choice.

Furthermore, most sellers on ebay.ch are actually in Germany and quite a few refuse to ship to Switzerland (but ebay still displays them, so take care to read the small print before bidding). But then I like the way ebay integrates with paypal simplifying the payment process. And for non-typically Swiss stuff, ebay is often the better place to look.

So it's horses for courses really.

essentially Ebay is the perfect money making website machine. The creator of that site just be absolutely minted. Its perfect, other people do all the work buying and selling, they (Ebay) reap a commission. Its the perfect business model for perpetual organic growth with little overheads. For the user its pretty awesome too.

Ricardo is not free, you pay fixed fee to post the ad (it could be free though, it shows you the price in the last step before you publish it) and than you pay a 3/4/5 % commission charge on your sale price depending on the value.

For example, here's my charges from recent sales:

i have an eBay account with UK and am very pleassed with buying and selling. However, now that Î'm in CH, can I sell using the same account but change the pick up address?

Furthermore, is there any differences that I should be aware of from UK Ebay to CH eBay?

Cheers

Neither! I would go for tutti.ch. No fees! ... and people can select items for sale in their region, making it easier for pick ups.

You could also try the "Möbelbörse" of Interio, which is also a free service: http://www.interio.ch/de/cp.moebelboerse

If you really want one of the two suggested ones, I vouch for Ricardo. Most of my Swiss friends post and buy stuff on/from there.

Ebay in its early days was just perfect.

The fact that tutti.ch is free is because there is no binding contract between buyer and seller. I would certainly use ricardo (it is however not perfect!!!) than ebay (at least for swiss based stuff) as it is pretty much dead in CH.

nonsense! They have just lowered their prices and you can post items for free if you start the bid at 1CHF, also I got an email that they will soon start prolonging the sales to 30 days as a possibility.

Unfortunately its not in English?

Of course it won't be

That's why there are photos!

Strangely enough the Ricardo iPad app has an English option.. won't help with the auction postings though.

So true, lets not try to help english speakers, or encourage them to spend money...

Ricardo, depending on size value, look how close for pickup, otherwise Swiss Postage is reasonable.

Preference that payment either in cash or via bank, cutting out Paypal charge as a buyer or seller.

About 8 or 10 years ago, I was horrified we were buying a full MAC system, pre Imac, with keyboard, mouse, original packing etc & we were meeting the sellers in carpark of Heidiland. OH saying it is OK this is Switzerland.

OH was 100% correct.

We had a beautiful glass table with a small mark on one edge, we could not sell for even 1chf, because of the pecularity of size would not fit into a regular car. It did not fit our lifestyle anymore. Odd thing we eventually were able through word of mouth, able to find a neighbour to take it for nothing, but has given us 100s of grateful hospitality.

There is the odd thing we buy with ebay UK, depending on value, whether delivery to Switzerland, Germay drop box or UK home. But so far not bothered to sell from Swizerland on ebay.

It's not even available in italian (that's 350-500 thousands people in ch), but italian speakers use it anyway you just need to translate the basic words until you know them to be able to navigate the page. You can use the opportunity to learn some german words or use the french version many words are the same as in english i guess.

You are right, but you know sometimes, you just get fed up with it, especially on the internet, its so easy to have an English option...Oh I forgot the swiss do not like easy..
