EITAS: EU Advance Passenger Information for Non-EU (incl UK)

Romania and Bulgaria are indeed strange, they are partially in Schengen. No passport check for air travel, but passport control for land travel.

No Sir. They started it October 2023 and it is all about Asylum seekers.
I know, Euros and terrorism sounds better (in the sense more people will let it pass as okay) but that’s not it.

sorry, German. October 2023:

Wasn’t that something to do with all their household rubbish they were taking across the border and dumping in Germany - and the Germans have had enough - among other reasons.

Not really a  matter.

At the German border (Basel-Weil am Rhein) they routinely control everyone’s travel documents on the tram. It’s not racial profiling, as it’s systematic.

More delays.

British travellers to Europe won’t need a ‘euro-visa’ until 2027 thanks to further Brexit red-tape delays

Looks like the EITAS fee will no longer be 7 Euros, but 20 when they finally get around to getting it going late next year.

EES partially rolling out from 12th October 2025.

So are we going to have to apply for these new Withdrawal Agreement Residence documents or not? Totally confused.

This is indeed going to cause more chaos at ports while they try and do all this scanning stuff.

" SCHENGEN: Border crossings to the Schengen area will be digitally recorded from this autumn. The European Commission has set the launch date of the Entry-Exit System (EES) for 12 October. This system should make it possible to digitally record the data of travellers from third countries when entering, transiting or leaving the Schengen area. Personal passport data, date and place of entry or exit, as well as fingerprints and a photo of the face will be stored in the ESS. The system aims to facilitate the exchange of information between customs authorities and to enhance security within the Schengen area. The SSE also aims to identify people who exceed the authorized duration of stay and avoid identity theft. It will only apply to people on a short stay of up to 90 days. Initially, the country’s three major airports, Geneva, Basel-Mulhouse and Zurich, will be connected to the EES system."

Btw do we know which countries are rolling this out first? I haven’t see anything that says which countries will use it right from the start in October. I assume France since the UK is rolling it out right from the start as well.

" Changes to Advance Passenger Information

Due to the implementation of a Digital Border by the UK Home Office, you are no longer required to use the online submission form to share your API 24 hours in advance of travel. This information will now be collected at the port during check-in when passports are scanned."

I was going to add ours the other day for our trip and saw this on DFDS’s site.

OK, so I have to click a stupid cookie banner on every webpage and can’t have various AI for ‘privacy’ but scan my face and fingerprints at the border.

Looks like UK truck drivers are going to have a lot of problems.

Certain drivers face new rules next week as Europe punishes Britons with tougher motoring laws

I seriously doubt that the intention of the new rules is to punish Britons. They made their bed and they will have to live with the reality that they no longer have freedom of movement. But isn’t that what Brexit was all about.

EES - To whom does the EES not apply?

Being introduced at GVA and BSL 17 Oct. ZRH a month later.

I can hardly wait for ski season!

Will have to go through it at Dover in a week and a bit’s time so hopefully any problems will have been smoothed out by then. I’m hoping that they’ll separate those that need to be registered and those who don’t into separate lanes so we can sail through pretty quickly as usual.

Looks like we’ll miss it anyway.

“At Dover, ferry passengers in coaches will start using the new system on 12 October, followed by other tourist traffic on 1 November.”

What is the EU’s new border system EES - and how does it work? - BBC News

Can see this causing problems later when it gets going.

"The port of Dover has had to make big changes. It has reclaimed some land from the sea to create an additional processing area.

People will head to this new area, a mile from the ferry terminal, to do their EES checks."

Has anyone heard of any problems in the first few days? I do realise that it’s being implemented slowly but I’ve seen nothing in the press of long queues or other problems.

Nothing on DFDS’s site. Says to leave extra time, but no suggestion of how much extra. Given that it’s only coaches atm I can’t see there being much holdup for car passengers.

I can’t find anything on Geneva airport’s website. But is it only arriving passengers from non-Schengen that have register. What about departing passengers to non-S, particularly those that haven’t already registered?

Seems to be going smoothly so far apart from some tech problems initially.

Technical issues for EES launch but no delays reported
