EMA approves vaccine for 5-11

Hello all, MattyRedSox' thread was closed so I couldn't reply there.

So, the EMA approved vaccinating ages 5-11 with Pfizer today, and I know Switz does not see child vaccines as a priority. That said, we really want our kids vaxxed - if anyone has any knowledge of pediatricians giving the vaccines here, or of practices in Germany that are planning on starting I would really appreciate the info, here or in a PM.

This is in no way meant to be a discussion about whether or not children should be vaccinated, please don't ruin this thread too.

What difference would that make? It’s more likely to be members with more posts who upset the apple cart in threads here.

Ask your paediatrician if they’re doing them or not.

2) We only have a family doctor and he is not doing them at least until approved here in Switzerland.

Would doctors be allowed to do this if the vaccine is not yet approved by Swissmedic?

Yes by all means, limit it to the cantankerous ones

You're unlikely to find a doctor to vaccinate a child with anything not approved by Swissmedic.

Swissmedic = FDA = EMA. Entirely separate organisations doing essentially the same thing.

I'd very much appreciate to hear any leads others might have around here. I'm new enough to be very limited in DM abilities, but I can receive them if anyone has a tip

Off-label child vaccination seems easy-ish to procure in Vienna at the moment (you can sign up with just an address in Vienna), and https://u12schutz.de/ was organized in Germany. I don't know whether the more formal approval will result in those venues closing and others bring set up.

I'd prefer not to cross a border for this, but if doing so, I'd also want to understand that vaccine supply was exceeding demand there (ie, don't deny someone else that dose). I haven't been able to figure that out for Germany or Austria yet.

Don't know where you're from as it's not in your profile so I assume you are an expat.

So I'll give the same advice as in the other thread. Go to your home country if you are desperate for the vaccine. There are no guarantees it will be available here.

Agreed that a flight to a home country where it's been approved is a guaranteed path, but it's also a major inconvenience. I'd like to believe that most situations where that amount of inconvenience is justifiable would also be persuasive to local doctors (there has been non-zero off-label use in Switzerland), but am ignorant about how this works in practice out here.

Our situation, at least, does not clear that hurdle: we're all healthy and so there's not all that much risk involved. Nonetheless, I'd prefer our children to acquire immunity via vaccination instead of infection, and I continue to seek options for achieving that whose cost is not exceeded by the benefit.

Well, "home" country isn't vaccinating kids yet (fingers crossed for Christmas) and I wouldn't go back to the States for a million bucks right now. I agree with you that Swiss docs have zero incentive to do off-label vaccines, was hoping maybe some had approval to do early trials. I'm wary of that route regardless (I read through the u12schutz stuff the other day, and it's a bit too much), and besides that I want them properly so the kids can have the certificates too, not to have issues here later. Also, don't want to lie and say I have an address in Vienna. I'm hoping that Germany will be overflowing with kids' vaccines in a week without a lot of takers initially so that they'll be willing to share. Too much to hope for?
