Arabs tend to be talkative, to put it mildly. I however have to admit that I myself am talkative as well. But in the Arab World (and possibly also Turkey and Spain ) things are similar. When being confronted with narrow schedules, people in these areas become complicated.
Sure, the Warsaw Convention and the DenHaag Protocols allow the airlines to handle passengers like cattle. Which roughly means that a transit-stay of less than 30 hours does not give a duty to put passengers into a hotel to the airline.
Indeed. I remember being in a taxi in Damascus when the taxi driver pulled up at a roadside tea stand and asked if I would like a cup. Quite pleasant really just no need to be in a rush.
My brother once fell asleep in a cab in Dubai after a hard day and night and the driver just kept on going up and down Sheikh Zayed Road until he woke up!
As far as the OP goes, I find it strange that Emirates have not arranged accommodation. Better just go find someone else (another Emirates staff member - preferaby with some decision making power) at the airport until you get the right answer. Last October I went from LCY airport where BA were saying I was on my own and would not even stump up a meal voucher to LHR where I spoke to a manager who agreed to pay transport, food and accommodation on an 18 hour delay (approx. 18.30 until 12.30 next day).
Another update the connecting flight is delayed by 4 hours
They have been made to wait inside the departure cabin from last 3 hours.
All they were provided was with a single meal voucher for 24 hours of wait now
Oh a BIG THANK YOU !
Believe me we have checked with all the customer desks of emirates and hence this frustration, they are coming up with this "please bear with us attitude"
Just because the accommodations were not given to your parents and they have finally boarded their flight here does not preclude your continuing to ask for an explanation from the company's representatives.
Emails, calls, and posted mail sent up the chain of command, if you are inclined to take the time to pursue the matter, may result in the receipt of flight vouchers, upgrades, or some other compensation. In the US, we have a phrase, "The squeaky wheel gets the grease," meaning that the more you continue to bug them about the matter, the more likely you are to see results!
However you may decide it is not worth your while if you wish not to utilize Emirates any more based upon your parents' experience this time around.
I fly Emirates because their quality is easily on par and usually better than EU airlines. So I am really surprised about your story. Something similar happened to me last year on an Asian budget airline and even they put me on a hotel (which was as budget as the airline...).
My experience with Emirates is that their website sucks and their call center is an absolute nightmare full of untrained kids probably sitting in India... but once you talk to a representative in Zurich things for me always worked like a charm. I think it is worth going to their local office and file a complaint in person.
Yes will do that. I am right now expecting and in my 38 weeks and this stress is making me even more frustrated, I am more worried of their safe arrival now, I hope they don't spend another night at Dubai with this chaos
do your parents have non EU passport. Usually thats the case when they refuse to accomadate you for a hotel. I have seen a lot of indians, srilankans and pakistanis roaming around in Dubai airport couple of weeks ago, staying in airport for up to 24 hours becoz of missed connections with only food vouchers.
The crappy website showed since 2 hours: departure time 11:30 and status as not yet departed, which was ridiculous as 11:30 dubai time was a thing in the past. so I called their number, to which they said yes its departed at 11:30 .
I asked her multiple times, if she was sure it's already departed and came a super confident "yes"
Now the emirates website is updated with the time of departure as 13:30 and in flight.
Another proof of their " Quality service".
I will rely on zurich airport information on arrivals to plan our travel to the airport.
Did I also add that following the extended layover in Dubai, my mom also accidentally landed in Gaborone, Botswana on Emirates enroute to Tambo, SA. The Emirates plane was circling in SA ( bad weather ) and had to be diverted ASAP to Botswana for refueling.
Oh yes Luggage .No one has been thinking about it lately They had informed it's in the new connecting flight, but with their trusted information I expect the un expected, we hope we will be lucky and it arrives in zurich and along with the same flight
