Equivalent of Morges near Zurich =)

Romanshorn to Zürich in 1 hour during commuter times? I don’t think so. Frauenfeld or Schaffhausen would be closer to that boundary.

I’ve worked with people in Zürich who‘ve commuted daily pre home office times from Chur, Brunnen and Luzern with a mix of car and train.

There’s quite a lot! And some don’t even need to be geographically close if you have fast trains. I’ve done Zurich to Schaffhausen and that’s 39 minutes on a fast train.

Schaffhausen does qualify, thanks! Although it’s a bit of a personal psychological weird kind of thing, I’d prefer to stay away a bit further from borders ie. from places like Basel, Geneva etc.

Schaffhausen may be doable for a commute to Zurich if you are close to the main stations. But Schaffhausen - Zug???

Is this actually a real consideration for you or just an entertainment thread? You haven’t mentioned anything about a job. It makes a hell of a difference whether you need to comnute to Hottingen or to Albisrieden.

Purely geographicallly, the best place for your criteria remains Thalwil. Although it is pricey.

The French border is less than a km from our house. I see no negatives from living so close. In fact the Divonne Sunday market is much better than anything in Romande.

what do you mean by self-sufficient? I lived in a town which had <2k residents and had only a restaurant and a small supermarket which doubled as a post office.

on borders, each to their own, but proximity to border opens options for cheaper shopping and other products being available.

It’s a move I’m considering from time to time and I haven’t yet had a reason to, but if I do the job would likely be in Zurich, so it’s not real enough but I’d like to to this kind of mental exercise =) It’s quite likely sooner or later I’d want to have a new chapter of living in Switzerland

It’s quite subjective and probably doesn’t warrant a discussion but I’d like to have less of an “EU” vibe and more of a Swiss vibe =)

As for the self-sufficiency:

  • a barbershop
  • a post office
  • a few large supermarkets
  • doctors
  • kindergartens
  • hospital
  • some restaraunts
  • a post office
  • a catholic church =)
  • a nice place to go for a walk

And all of it thanks to having its on its own, not due to the ability to commute to a nearby city =)
Ie. for example when living in Morges except for going for work, you can literally be in Lausanne just a few times a year only because a rare doctor is there, or just because of “hey, it’s been a while I haven’t been there, let’s pay a visit”

I work in Thalwil and it’s pricey, but lovely. However, I don’t really believe Meh is after advice, this seems more like “one day maybe, I’d like to possibly, eventually change place, work, canton and village. What’s gonna work?”

Asking for a hospital and a village vibe is just funny. But hey, it’s Sunday, sun is shining, I just had a guy offering me a sheep sausage, so all kinds of crazy these days.

I understand that the fact that I am not having a move on the horizon next month makes it less interesting for you to answer, but this comparison thought has been reoccurring a lot on my mind therefore I wanted to collect some personal experiences.

In short, Lachen seems the most interesting option, also the fact it is Schwyz is nice. I guess there’s a shortage of apartments, but it’s another aspect =)
I don’t want to annoy you all anymore with this thread =)

Don’t worry, fine thread.

Lachen is growing fast. There is quite a bit of construction going on, but most gets sold without even being publicly advertised. Not much available for rent.

I guess the next question for you would be requirements for a place and budget.

So, it’s sold how, via a word of mouth? In Switzerland it’s all so heavily based on connections it seems.
I’m now paying about 2,3k for a new construction 3-room apartment but in a more distant future I’d like to have a mortgage. Not sure how it compares to Lachen. A nice thing about Schwyz is that the purchase tax is 0% (it looks like?)… But at this point it I’d agree it would be a too theoretical discussion indeed even for my purposes =)

Real estate agents often ask you to register your interest. Then the contact people in their data base when something comes up.

Purchase prices are somewhere between 10 - 14k per sqm, I would say. No tax on purchase.

Sounds like Nyon …

Heh it could qualify but as you know it’s next to Morges

Ah so it’s not just for spam emails, it does serve a purpose… Good to know!

I’ve been looking for a new apartment to buy in Zug. It’s really hard to find anything online. There’s the https://www.neubauprojekte.ch but it doesn’t list everything. Finally I’ve done a car tour chasing any construction. I found something new in Baar, but at the time I could only register my interest by offering at what price I was willing to buy. I let it go.
