Euro 2024

Well done Spain, very well deserved! What a game, not only the most entertaining team to watch by far, but the most effective one too. If there’s any logic in football, and there isn’t, Spain should go home with the Cup. You can clearly see that this French team was well past its prime.

I’m happy with that result and I don’t really care who wins now although I think Spain has played best throughout the tournament so they deserve the win.

And they’ll beat the Netherlands or England…on the plus side. :joy:

So…Vamos!

We’re in the FINAL :soccer:

We must have used up all our nine lives by now surely?

Unless they suddenly play a blinder in the final I think this is Spain’s to lose.

I thought England played as a different team last night. They were sure and confident, and played some blinding football. Looks like they’ve finally found their mojo. Even if they lose against Spain, if they play like they did last night, then they’ll certainly give the Spanish some headaches.

I didn’t actually see the match last night since I was busy elsewhere being entertained by Taylor Swift but the lad said they played pretty well yesterday.
They still left it until the very last minute to score the winner though which made him twitchy apparently.

Yes another nerve wracking night for England fans when it was looking like the game would go into extra time followed by another dreaded penalty shootout, only for England to pull out a last minute goal.

No doubt all praise will be showered on Gareth Southgate who now feels vindicated as England manager, after getting England through to the Euro finals against Spain in Berlin on Sunday but what a turn-around for him after the England fans were throwing pint glasses at him ( for a lacklustre England performance in the qualifiers ) now even Gareth Southgate’s lookalike ( who works for the German Police force in Dortmund ) was serenaded by England fans yesterday. :open_mouth:

I actually thought of the famous English fans afterwards…did they behave?
I can only imagine the maximum enthusiasm…

England fans are a fickle bunch, however Southgate has been a decent manager guiding the team to two Euro finals. His tendency to spare subs until the last minute also appears to have been vindicated, he did it yesterday to spectacular success and also in the Slovakia match when his 94 min substitution of Ivan Toney set up Kane’s winner.

Cheeky chappy in Scotland flying the flag of whoever’s playing against England in the Euros.

The question is will he fly a White Flag if England win on Sunday? :kissing_heart:

Must be sorely disappointed to find the sassenachs reached the final ! ! !

I hope he’s flying a Spanish flag because its been a good omen so far.

Okay, this is hilarious. On I think it was “This Morning” yesterday they were answering stupid questions from callers like should I cancel my wedding because it clashes with the soccer final. Come on folks, a) soccer ain’t that important no matter what you think and b) the match schedules have been known for ages so if you suspected that England might get through to the final you should have planned your wedding for another date! Geeze.

I wonder, why do they play at 21-00 on Saturday. Why not 18-00?

The game is tomorrow, Sunday, not on Saturday.

For Sunday it’s even more strange, no? Good, that at least it’s school holidays already.

I find the 9pm start weird too, especially in the euros where there aren’t huge time zone differences to factor in.

People plan their weddings years in advance so it’s perfectly plausible that the weddings were planned long before the match schedule was known, probably even before the qualifying stages.

Football is immensely important to some people, we might not understand it but to them the match is of paramount importance.

The soccer final is scheduled for 9:00 PM to accommodate viewers in Australia and New Zealand, where many are supporting the English team. My sister and half-sister live in these countries respectively, and the atmosphere there is quite similar to that in England!

This timing is also convenient for viewers in the Western USA/Canada, Hawaii, and Eastern Asia. Of course, this is just my guess. Many people overseas access SSR SRG channels thru Zattoo, Net+, and also via satellite (Hot Bird) in the Middle East.

For example, in Iran, people watch Euro matches on Swiss and Italian channels. When it’s 6:00 PM here, it’s 7:30 PM there, and many are still commuting home since Sunday is a working day!
