Eurovision 2025

Which is a great idea.

On the other hand, how to motivate the kids to get interested in music or sports in first place without flashy lights and vapid entertainment?

That is the most accurate description of the event, even poetical! :slightly_smiling_face:

That my work in Switzerland but not all Eurovision host countries are as wealthy as Switzerland, the money used to host the contest could often better be spent elsewhere.

If israel won’t be kicked out for perpetrating apartheid, genocide and ethnic cleansing, at least get them for cheating which they did last year and this n.b “allegedly” just for the sake of komso.

Nemo, the Swiss Eurovision winner from the previous year voiced the same opinion two weeks ago.

I wonder how Nemo would have reacted if Israel had won the contest, given that they are not at all fond of Israel. Luckily, Austria won, and Nemo warmly greeted the friendly Austrian winner.

And Israel will be in Eurovision in 2026. The Netherlands, Ireland, Solvenia and Spain will boycott the event, Iceland and Belgium will make their decisions next week.

No that wouldn’t be correct..it isn’t Jews the various countries are concerned with, it is Israel.

I know, but it has a nice ring to it.

Good riddance to israel being treated as the pariah, genocidal state that it is. Hopefully others will join the boycott.

But did they agree changes to the public voting rules? No single country should be allowed to buy votes the way Israel did.

Yes, that’s why Israel is allowed to compete. If they hadn’t agreed the changes then there probably would have been a separate vote on that which would have needed to be unanimous iirc.

Good. A Judenfrei event in Vienna wouldn’t be very nice.

The continuing of the boycott and tantrums by Ireland and Spain shows that it’s not about the war at all, but plain old hatred to Israel. The war is over, hostages are back home, and now it’s time for some people to get off the tree they climbed on.

I wonder if Spain and Ireland are just virtue signaling to internal pressure?
Germany on the other hand is, as suspected, sucking up to Israel.

That’s what everybody wants. But, it’s been a long war and there’s no back to the past. There’s only a new equilibrium.

Back to the world of contracts, Spain did not boycott. RTVE, the public broadcasting organisation, declined to participate. It would be interesting if a private TV company decides to pick up this contract. A similar issue in the Netherlands and Ireland, public TV channels dropped it. What if someone else picks up this business opportunity from the floor?

Did a few managers overestimate their impact in the world? Next episode of this drama will come soon!

Not sure that’s possible. It’s the broadcasting companies themselves that make Eurovision so I’m not sure they’d agree to any private companies taking on the broadcast.

Isn’t that the point of democracy?

I’m really curious at the contractual issues. It’s weird to leave a deal and then impose conditions to the organisation you just rejected.

To put the issue in simpler terms, it’s like breaking up with my girlfriend, and then telling her (my ex) she can’t date anyone else.

Of course, the European Broadcasting Corporation only takes public TV as members. But, the system is under strain now, what will they do?
