Eurovision 2026

Doesn’t eurovision allow, nay, encourage, people to vote up to 10 times as they earn money for each vote?

Does anyone know how to vote? I didn’t watch the contest, but will gladly put a few votes for Israel - purely on the basis of the video above…

There are two broad categories of countries, and the UK just happens to fall into the second.

  • Countries that treat it almost like a national sporting event
  • Countries that see it mainly as camp entertainment and social viewing

I fail to see the difference between the two categories.

The difference is that Eurovision winners would not receive this type of welcome.

Football is more popular that most things, it may even #1 thing. No surprises here.

Back to the music, I listened to the radio a lot. I think I listened to the song of the Swiss participant once. Almost as if the thing were not happening. If it weren’t for 20min, I would have forgotten about it.

Except for Greece and UK, all serious this year, mindless fun is not there.

I still think that “Nocturne” was the most unusual to win Eurovision since it’s not really a song, it’s an instrumental apart from a few words at the end. Love it just the same though.

Top Gear blows the World Cup (and Eurovision combined) out the water.

Although not the same since the Golden years when it was presented by Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond !!

Surely Nigel Farage should be pulling the Reform voters in by looking at a complete withdraw from The Eurovision Song Contest to cheer the Brexits up ??

They love Europe, Spain and France in particular. They just don’t want to be part of it politically or economically.

The UK is inarguably the single most influential European country in modern popular music from the 1960s onward.
So why do they send such crap to the Eurovision contest?

The bbc link says they have used a Danish song writer for the last 2 entries.
No disrespect to the Danes but the Brits are in a totally different league music wise, something tells me they are not taking it seriously or ‘taking the piss’ as my ex used to say.

I don’t think the UK have taken it seriously for years.
It’s all just one giant piss take for the Brits.

For me Top Gear died when Clarkson, Hammond and May left. What’s after is just another car show among many, and this includes The Grand Tour.

It had begun to find its feet again with McGuinness, Flintoff and Harris. They had chemistry and it didn’t feel forced like the presenters immediately after the departure of Clarkson, May and Hammond.

But then Flintoff smashed his face in an accident and they shelved it. Rumour has it that they may be bringing it back.

Going back to ‘original’ Top Gear, I remember my dad grumbling when the original format with the likes of Quentin Wilson morphed into the format we know today with supercars and high jinks because ‘those clowns aren’t reviewing proper cars anymore’. :face_with_hand_over_mouth::joy:

Sorry - back to Eurovision.

Because:

  • Thay don’t take it seriously
  • They don’t want to prove anyone anything, they are the leaders
  • Eurovision is not about music.

Sadly this seems to be true these days. Haven’t watched it for years, but seems to me that it’s all about spectacular effects on stage; the wilder the better. The song - well, have to have one otherwise we can’t compete. but we’d do away with it if we could. Whatever happened to just standing on stage and singing. No dancing, no effects, etc, just sing the song. Then it will really be about the music again.

But do we really need this? I mean, the winner is supposed to make the most impressive musical show for the TV audience. The only purpose of a jury is to make it less political.

Dare I say it “Eins, zwei, drei, aber ich bekomme nur einen Punkt beim Eurovision Song Contest Wieder einmal hat Großbritannien kaputt !!”

Look Mom, No Computer and only one point from the jury and nil points from the public !!!
