In a couple of week I'll be leaving Switzerland and I want to take my motorbike with me (I will be driving it to spain). I've been in Zug for +2 years and the bike is more than 6 months old.
Now, I've looked, asked, called, emailed and done everything I know to get the information I need but I still am not clear on what I need to move the bike to spain., so here are my questions:
- Can I drive it to Spain just like that with my swiss plates and insurance, without doing the export declaration in customs? (it seems that if I do that I have to change the plates to the green ones) Remember, the bike will be permanently exported.
- Do I need the CoC for the export? I know I need it for the import but I requested it twice already and it hasn't arrived yet and time is running out...
- What do I do at the border/customs? Never had to go through one on land so I have no clue, if someone could pitch in.. I'm planning to go through the Geneva border.
I've exported a car to DE and just drove it there with my plates.
I took plates and grey card with me back, returned the plates and cancelled the grey card.
Sent them back to the buyer there and he took care of the import process.
I've also imported a car (same one actually) from GR to CH. GR is very bureaucratic about cars, so I had to get green plates, and stop at the Chiasso border to declare the car left the EU and then went to the CH side and imported it.
You should definitely speak to STVA regarding exporting requirements (if any) and to Spain customs regarding their procedures.
