I haven't bothered watching it for years but thought, given the set up, I'd give it a go today.

So, with a few laps to go, the fella way in front, who can't possibly lose unless his car blows up, does, in fact, lose the whole caboodle because some other fella, miles behind him, has a bump.

What an idiotic 'sport'.

(also.. if a crash effectively resets the race so that everyone up front is again neck and neck.. why not, if advantageous, purposely instruct one teammate to 'accidentally prang' so that the leading teammate gets a better chance.)

Michael Masi is bloody useless for a start. Mercedes are taking this all the way to the Court of Arbitration.

They need new rules. No pit stops or tyre changes under safety car or red flag.

I too, watched the race for the first time in like 20 years. After today, I won't be watching again.

Is this how they sell advertising dollars? I guess OP and me are just 2 people...

I stopped watching when they removed starter girls.

Haven't watched F1 since way before Hamilton won his first Championship. No V12 vs 1.5 turbo, no Bridgestone vs Pirelli, no fun, few surprises. No grid girls, no loss.

When I turned it on it was at lap 48 and I was preparing myself for a boring few laps and a Hamilton win.

It turned out to be much more entertaining than that.

Firstly, they need to stop the team to race director communications. We also need a Nigel Owens character as race director.

I disagree with the safety car pit stops. It's these unexpected elements that make racing exciting. Then we can also say: No racing in rain.

Might make it exciting, but driver efforts can be completely ruined by unexpected safety cars and red flags. Should Sport be unfair just to make it exciting?

If they were going to change the rules, why not go all the way? Why not let both drivers come in, get fresh tires, refuel whatever, clear the tracks, and then have a proper race for 1 or 2 laps?

As it were, the rule change benefited only one side.

Hamilton chose not to change tires. It was a strategic error by Mercedes.

Hamilton ran out of luck at the right time, there were a few times this season where he should have been penalised but was not, whereas Verstappen was.

But I agree, race control is not consistent and something has to change for next season.

Not really. My understanding is that the safety car came out just after Hamilton already passed the pit lane entrance and as the safety slowed him down, he couldn't go in anymore after that as he would have come out behind Max Verstappen and all the cars that he had lapped.

He could also have done a tyre change in the VSC too.
