Fast Food - what's your favourite? What would you like to see in CH?

yo. i'm guessing by your name you're from my neck of da woods.

if that's the case, i can promise you the following items:

real new york cheesecake (junior's has nothing on my game)

real oatmeal cookies...

as for the rolling rock and newports- makes me think you may just be from staten island, not city island

Thanks boo, lol but as odd as it may sound I never stepped a foot on Staten island. I was born in the Boogie down just like you. Even got the Puerto rican blood to prove it. I but just decided to move around a bit thats all. I bounced around NY for a while on to Atlanta, Florida and now Zürich.

I think it's safe to say I have been somewhat domesticated. somewhat

hey ho boriqua, hahaha- i've only been to s.i twice. it was enough. anyway just playing with you, as long as you're not a pbr drinking williamsburg boy the offer for a cheesecake still stands

and switzerland will domesticate the best of us!

now. let's talk about food. i miss the 4 am empanada vans and churros in the subway... now that's fast food

Not one mention of a bagel. What's up with that?

Ah, you mean lightly toasted with proper cream cheese, lox, a crack of black pepper and lemon juice, still slightly warm from the oven? That is the NW London munch from the Kosher bakeries on Sunday morning at 3am...mmm

No, not from Williamsburg. Born off the concourse by Yankee stadium. & I know , I may just take you up on that . As for food. Sh*t, I can't even find Goya Products in this b***h let alone anything remotely puerto rican. I almost lost it when I found Malta in a shop in Zurich & things got so desperate I resorted to making my own plantain chips.

Ah, this is torture. Why do I keep coming back to this thread.

NYC has some awesome bagels. I was wondering why the New Yorkers above failed to mention it.

because I found some in Germany and make them myself

Meat and potato pie mushy peas and gravy.

..hmm, so you say we could also give you a 4am ring for empanadas (if required)

hahaha! yay! i got sazon here but a small box for 7.20!!!! crazy.having my mamita send me some but luckily there are some products i can get here afterall. love my goya, oh boya.

yea yea bagels in nyc- not really my thang- why have a bagel when you can have a cafe rico and a spicey empanada?

and yes lib- 4 am ring for empanadas? that's fine- can't turn away a hungry belly!

Beer and cigs I can't help you with, sorry... do try some of the "local" brews though, perhaps they'll come close?

If you're even remotely handy in the kitchen, check for online copycat recipes, I've not looked for the Entenmens stuff but I'll agree with you there... you have given me a wicked taste for a cherry cheese danish from them. Mmmm mm!

Like Amaraya, I bake a mean cheesecake... not NY style really but good enough that I've been offered money for them before. (I've started prodding other Baslers for someone to host a Spring / Summer party, if someone does, I'll bake a cheesecake, I'd offer to host but my apartment is too tiny.)

They carry Haagen-Das at Coop, the flavors change occasionally so I'm not sure about finding Butter Pecan but Vanilla should be easy enough. Also, different Coops have different product so check out different ones if they don't have some at the one where you usually shop.

Peter Pan... I've tried a few different peanutbutters here but haven't paid attention to where they came from (sorry!). I can tell you that someone carries a nice "sweet" creamy peanutbutter that reminded me of PP's creamy but... Coop or Migros? Migros or Coop? I'm not sure.

I have a few recipes fro Oatmeal cookies... some are more chewy, some thick and "cakey"... you'll have to be more specific.

Ginger snaps! Coop DOES carry some ginger cookies that have a nice sharp taste to them. They are a bit wafer'ish (not very thick) but the flavor is good. I use them in the fall for the crust of pumpkin cheesecake. These cookies usually on a shelf near the bottom though so they're not terribly obvious.

There are a sh*t loada dominican stores in ZH...I know they don't necessarily cater to Boriquas...but as far as basic cooking ingredients, you will be able to find them there....there is also one store with fresh/semi fresh empanadas

I would like Indian street food like aloo tikki, pani puri, bhel puri ...

I love Burgers of all types, fillings, cheeses, etc...

Burritos are also outstanding as are Fried Chicken, Wedges and Coleslaw. Jamaican Beef Patties are exquisite also.

Nando's Grilled Chicken is another spectacular fast food with the HOT garlic peri peri sauce.

Almost any type of Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Korean or Japanese street food is simply amazing, not only fast but also relatively healthier .

BUT, the Shawarma just has to be my all time favorite fast food. I prefer the Lebanese Chicken variety done properly in only very few places in CH. The spiced grilled chicken smothered in garlic sauce, tahini, hot sauce, fresh & pickled veggies, rolled in a large pita and lightly toasted ... OMG. This is my ultimate fast food and one that I can happily indulge in almost every day.

I'd have to go with Chicken McNuggets.

See if your favorite ranks among the 40 deadliest fast food meals in the U.S. Mine ranks number 40!

Thanks for that, I had no Idea. I'll start my hunt (again).

Sounds like you and Amaraya need to have a cook-off. ill be happy to be the judge.

I know about this one. The flavors do change but since I like to make my own vanilla milkshakes and I can never seem to find a pint size of vanilla Häagen-Daz except maybe french vanilla it's almost hoepless. I even went to A Häagen-Daz shop in Freiburg Germany once & they didn't even know how to make one so I had to teach them! it was funny as hell. But what's interesting is; according to a friend, they sell them now.

Chewy, thick, cakey.. Doesn't really matter. I love oatmeal cookies

But Thank you for the offers & advice!

KFC (for the original recipe chicken drumsticks), A&W for the onion rings and Orange Julius (that crazy folded thinly sliced 'roast beef' which doesn't really taste like beef but is somehow tasty and addictive).

Craving KFC made me threaten the other half that I'd cook fried chicken for as many meals as it took to get it as close to KFC as possible. You see, he had made me miss eating at KFC on our last trip to Germany (darn!). Luckily, I found a good oven-fried chicken recipe on allrecipes.com and he was saved from being drowned in chicken experiments.

OK, economisto, Southwest had some good deals on flights, so I'm headed down to SF a week from today - I'll just think of it as a $255 burger....

Even though I'm a double-double with raw onions sort of guy, I'll order a 3x3 animal style in your honor. I'll even post the pics. And, if I can persuade one of the cuties behind the counter to give up her giant saftey pin, I'll save it for you!!

How about you think of it as a $235 burger. I'll give you $20 for 2 3x3 animal's. Just whack em into a tupperware box. paleeeease.
