Feedback on Tagesschule Zurich and Baden Ländli

Zurich and Baden offer Tagesschule concept.

Anyone moved from Primarschule + Hort to Tagesschule in Zurich or Baden and can share real life pros and cons?

I've read nearly everything available, but I'm curious to hear real life feedback on:

-waiting time for admission,

-after school activities, and

-overall comparison to a standard Hort care.

What grade/age are you looking at ?

It's moving very fast - lots of changes in the system in Stadt Zurich. Combined with a shortage of Kindergarten teachers, which is having a big knock-on effect with trying to find good Hort and Childcare staff - I would say it very much comes down to the individual school and teacher, the age of your child, and your own needs.

My children are in Tagesschule in Zurich and have been for 6 years.

I am not sure what you mean by "waiting time for admission"?. In Zurich you are allocated the nearest school available (or next nearest) and if that happens to be a Tagesschule then thats where your child goes. You cant choose to go, as far as I am aware.

- our school offers two free sport related classes during the Hort time - sometimes there is a waiting list. My children arent at Hort on Wednesdays but on these afternoons when there is less children it seems like they do visits to local parks, swimming, or extra cooking, arts and crafts etc.

- I cant compare to standard Hort care but my children and I have been very happy with the Hort care. Staff are lovely, caring and helpful

I'm eyeing Tagesschule for 3 kids: 1st kindergarten, 1st primary and 4th primary. I'd like to find an apartment preferably in Baden or Oerlikon (we liked Leutschenbach area), but finding a 4.5 or 5.5 room apartment is another story... ie. need to stay flexible

What's the situation with kindergarten and hort teachers? How does it differ between Zurich and Baden?

I was in ZRH and moved to Wettingen (near Baden).

I would say that it depends on the Gemeinde very much.

In Ennetbaden, I am hearing that the Tagesstruktur is well developed, with the Gemeinde committing to have a solution for each kid.

However, in general, Aargau is more backwards than Zurich. Therefore, women are more expected to have a part-time job or not work or grand-parents are helping.

I say that because we were surprised with the Horts here (expensive, not covering all the school holidays).

But we are told it is much better than 15 years ago.

So for Baden area, have low expectations I would say.

Looks like I'll focus on Zurich: Oerlikon, Affoltern, Schwamendingen, Altstetten, Witikon and surroundings.

Our kids are in a Stadt Zurich tagesschule, both in middle school. So far, we've had a good experience with it. One of our children is sensitive to noise, and the lunch hort called us at home because they were worried that he wasn't eating enough, and wanted to help find a solution. They met as a team and are allowing him to eat in a separate room (when he chooses). The food isn't our kids favorite, but they're certainly fed and kept alive!
