Fellow Americans, feel my pain.

In Austria Don`t make it worst

This thread reminds me of this story .

Cape Preton Rocks

HAHA!! This happens to me all the time!! My friend who is visiting me here for a trip is the worst. She is only here for a week, but she is just like "So I know we are going to London and Ireland, but if we could try and make it to Paris too, that would make my trip!! And of course you know I love skiing, so since you live in Switzerland, we could ski too!" No big deal. Just ski here, go to London, go to Ireland, go to Paris. They are all like 30 minutes away from each other, right?

This is funny )) found it on a youtube post

I LIVE IN THE U.S.A., WHY THE HELL WOULD I WANT TO FIND IT ON A MAP, IT AIN'T LOST, NEITHER AM I, ARE YOU LOST, USE YOUR GPS SYTEM, MAPS ARE FOR THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES!

I only was once advised about my friend's girlfriend coming over to EU from Asia and I should meet her up somwhere in Germany. It turned out to be 500km away. Don't do request like that anymore unless within 150km circle and reachable by autobahns

Hello,

I am new to the forum, and also American. I just found this post. Had a good laugh. Thanks for that.

Welcome to the forum! I happen to work in Stans myself, as does at least one other EF member.

Not quite the same topic, but when I was in Munich I had a new colleague and we had a chat at the coffee machine

Me: So do you have any holidays planned ?

Him: Yeah I'm going to Stanton for a week

Me: Is that your home town ?

Him: What, you don't know Stanton ?

Me: Nope never heard of it.

Him: It's in Austria

Me: **Blank look and shake my head**

Him: Christ man, how long have you been here. you need to get out more

Me: Sorry, I really have no idea where Stanton is

Him: Geez Man. Everyone knows Stanton Ski resort

Me: Oh you mean St Anton....

To this day that memory pops into my head when people talk about skiing in St Anton

I had a friend visit last summer for 2 weeks, and she wanted us to take a trip for 4 days to another European destination. So I started looking online for places to go and suggested Barcelona, or Istanbul, or Berlin, or Rome, etc...her answer was, ''well...can't we go to all of them? also, please don't book any flights, I want to take the train so I have an authentic experience!''

My two absolute "favorite" quotes:

"So how is Sweden treating you? Or is it Switzerland? I can never remember..." (sometimes said with all sorts of stumbles while trying to get out the second country's name)

"So how does it feel driving on the other side of the road?"

I feel your pain on this! When we lived near Chicago, it took 16 hours to drive to my parents' house in the Florida panhandle. Then we moved to Ft. Lauderdale and it still took 10 hours (11 if you had to make extra stops for the kids) to get to my parents' house in the Florida panhandle. All of my IL friends kept saying how lucky we were to be "so much closer" to my parents after we moved back to FL. Quite honestly, after about 6 hours in the car my butt can't tell the difference between a 10 hour drive and a 16 hour one

Try,

Friend: ''How's everything in Swaziland ?''

Me: ''I don't know''

Friend: ''....I don't understand''

Just got here 5 weeks ago, so really appreciating this one as well-meaning friends and relatives asked about the move to Sweden...

I have gotten to the point where I switch back and forth from Sweden and Switzerland several times during a conversation, just to see if anyone picks up on it. And.... Nothing.

Back in my BC era (Before Children,) I spent two years in Liberia. I had a dear great aunt who invariably asked me how things were in Libya. Then I went and married a man from Lebanon, whom I met in Liberia. Poor dear still doesn't have it all straight.
