The first part of the exam is oral. You will have two examiners, one will make notes about the session, and one will speak with you.
You will be expected to introduce yourself and answer basic questions about your life.
The next part of the exam is "conversational." They will show you a picture of something and you will describe the situation and discuss it with the proctor of the exam. The pictures are of "everyday situations" like missing a bus or calling a doctor's office, or a child's school. I blew the one about going to the Gemeinde because I've been to the Gemeinde exactly once. Oh, well.
The next part is listening comprehension. They will play a series of pre-recorded conversations and you answer multiple-choice questions.
The last part was written. You will read and answer questions and possibly write a short email.
The classifications seem grouped into A1-A2 bands of material, then B1-B2. They choose the track for you based on your initial answers, but you are allowed to switch the writing portion if you feel in over your head. But you can't go below A1, obv.
Good luck!
