FIFA World Cup 2026

Such a shame.

The US earned so many creds over this World Cup experience and then Trump stained it all.

Argentina, France, Norway, and England are all still in the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Brazil and Germany are long gone.

Brexit must be working

If Argentina lose to Switzerland then it’ll be an all European ending for the cup. No other countries outside of Europe still in the competition.

An English friend just told me that the press there were billing the Colombia v Switzerland match as ‘Charlie v The Chocolate Factory’

After the World Cup, the death of Jayden Adams shocks South Africa

Midfielder Jayden Adams, who had just played in the World Cup with the South African team, died on Saturday at the age of 25. His death was announced by the South African Minister of Sports.

“It is deeply shocked and with a heavy heart that I learned of the death of Jayden Adams,” Gayton McKenzie said in a statement, without specifying the cause of death, which “has not yet been confirmed.” “South African football has lost one of its brightest young talents,” he added.

Police said they had opened an investigation after the body of a 25-year-old man was found in a house in Schotschekloof, a district in central Cape Town, on Saturday morning to clarify the circumstances of the death.

Jayden Adams had played in all three of South Africa’s matches in the first round of the World Cup in North America as part of Group A: the first two as a starter, against Mexico and the Czech Republic, the third as a substitute against South Korea, where he came on in the 80th minute. However, he did not take part in the sixteenth final against Canada, which he lost 1-0.

It’s going to be hot.

What is the weather forecast?

Put simply, conditions in Miami will be hot and humid.

While air temperatures are likely to sit about 33C (91F), once you add in the humidity, it will feel like about 41C (106F).

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the area on Saturday which warns that high temperatures and humidity may cause heat-related illnesses.

It is advising people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and stay out of the sun.

Alongside the high temperatures, there is a risk of thunderstorms, especially near the start of the match, and a possibility of showers. Otherwise, sunny spells are expected.

But further north

Great weather in KC for this match. It’s a little warm, it’s a little humid, but nothing too outrageous or out of the ordinary.

Nah, sixty years later the dodgy refereeing decisions are likely to go Messi’s way.

Always thought it was for the useless?

Well FIFA’s top four are through to the semis.

The Swiss did very well holding Argentina to a draw through full time and the first overtime.

Hopp Suisse, Forza Svizzera, Hop Schwiiz

FIFA want an Argentina vs France final that’s very clear.

The problem isn’t dodgy refereeing decisions, but the inconsistency with which VAR is used. We may as well dispense with referees altogether and just have an Ai ref.

I wonder about this too, although admittedly I am not up to date with the current rules.

There are some new cool rules to avoid wasting time on the field. For example, if a player is rolling in the ground allegedly in pain, there is defined period of time to stand up or the player can finish the drama outside the field while the game continues.

It’s open to discussion which of the strong teams (Germany, Brazil) got eliminated due to the reliance on wasting time to disrupt the game. When they couldn’t do it anymore, their performance sinks.

ouch…
well, the referee triunvirate yesterday tried hard  that last goal was borderline

Oh dear! Never mind.:joy:
