FIFA World Cup 2026

Reading on the news that the Tunisia team arrived to my hometown.

Tunisia will play with Sweden next Saturday at 20h00 local time. I feel sorry for Sweden, the sun will still be shinning, probably 30+ C, high humidity with thunderstorms in the afternoons. Ugh, sticky heat.

The attempts are numerous but the population is against it.

Sion 2006, Grisons 2022, Sion 2026 and Grisons 2026 (winter games) were all rejected by the respective canton’s population.

The currently ongoing talks for 2038 will almost certainly also be voted against if it comes to a vote.

As he made it on the plane to Miami he must have been holding a valid visa to travel to the US. That visa would only have been issued following an extensive investigation and background check. And some junior wet behind the ears agent turns him away because ???

People’s avoid travelling to the USA, particularly if you are not snow-white, Christian and to the right of Ghengis Khan.

To be honest, it would probably be easier to run the tournament in somewhere like North Korea.

USA - stop embarrassing yourself!

And when you do something really stupid, man-up, apologise and make it right.

The news of tourists being arrested and kept in detention for weeks were common a year ago. I guess not much has changed.

The ideal would be that Mr. Referee enters and does his job without further idiocy. 2nd best, skip detention and get back home on the next flight, no need to spend weeks in random jail.

If this happens to referees with high visibility and under the FIFA umbrella, god bless anonymous fans.

He had a diplomatic passport so extraordinary that he was denied.

Shocking breach of protocol

And yet he manages more grace than the entire US cabinet put together.

Despite the setback, Artan struck a positive tone in a statement.

“I would like to thank FIFA and CAF for all their support and I promise to keep my refereeing levels up as I concentrate on the future,” he said.

“I want to thank the football family for their messages and wish my colleagues all the best success during the World Cup and I look forward to joining them again in future competitions.”

Both on a professional level, and a personal one, refereeing at a World Cup must be pretty good for the CV and a story with which to amaze the grandchildren.

  • Curaçao? Ahhh, they’re finally independent.
  • Elfenbeinküste? What do elves have to do with Ivory?

They paint it white.
Everybody knows that.

The American team and fans are mid as fuck, the other countries are going to eat their lunch.

Among the chaos, a moment of happiness: ticket scalpers are about to get shafted.

Fifa faces empty seats as 180,000 World Cup tickets hit resale market

The median ticket price on the official portal for resellers has sunk by 20 per cent over the past month. After taking account of a 26 per cent resale fee on transactions through the platform, the FT has calculated that most resales may now come at a loss.

That’s the average, at more granular level offer and demand matter, lower offer higher markups:
