Maybe a large Sprüngli cake would have been OTT, but some gipfeli or similar are surely welcome and help you to start a conversation with the people who are outside of your immediate team...
I had my first day in a new company at the beginning of this month. I bought some cake (they coincidentally started to sell the "3 kings cake" on my first working day...). I am pretty sure the management did not see this in any way negatively.
