Thank you.
I am a UK citizen, but worked for a U.S. military contractor for a long time in Germany. I recently retired and started receiving retirement income payments from the U.S. provider (TIAA-Cref) last summer, so I understand this means I now have to start filing a U.S. tax return. A year or so ago I consulted with an international tax attorney in the U.S. to clarify this, but now I need someone to actually assist me with it. Any recommendations? (I did find one listing on here, but they chared 125 chf just to ask the question whether it's something they can assist with.)
I have found that I can pretty easily do my taxes with TurboTax. You don't have to pay until you submit, so you can play around with it to decide if it will do what you need without too much headache.
Thanks. Unfortunately I have no idea how to submit - presumably I don't need to fill out all the information that a U.S. citizen would need to submit. Therefore I think I'm going to need assistance at least the first time, and was hoping someone might have a good recommendation.
Last I knew, the IRS still had an office in Paris for expats, or expat related tax issues. You could start with them, although be prepared for a long drawn out affair.
For an expat US tax specialist, the organisation American Citizens Abroad, has a list of tax specialists for international issues. I would look at their website for possibilities.
Unfortunately you have to be a member to access their list! I was anyway hoping for a personal recommendation. Thanks though.
Don’t think so, I got this link easily through the website and I’m not a member.
