Nice to find this site. My son lives in Switzerland and I am coming to visit. I have the first part of my trip sorted out and quite excited. I have 3 nights booked in Wengen because he said I have to see it. I am not a seasoned hiker and a bit fearful of travelling solo on long hikes. So my question is are there any hiking groups or guides one can hire? Second, if not Wengen any suggestions? I am pretty open to any part of Switzerland. The first part I will be doing a couple of day trips from Zurich and then to Montreux for 5 days with day trips from there. Appreciate any input. Thanks.

Wengen is lovely.

Switzerland is extremely well organised. There will be a tourist centre there with plenty of info about hikes around the area. Everything is marked and signposted and you need not worry about hiking on your own. (It's not the Himalayas).

When you go, do NOT miss out on the amazing train trip up to Kleine Scheidegg (and to the top of Jungfrau, if you have the time). You certainly won't be hiking alone, and the views are truly spectacular.

Wengen is lovely.

The paths are well made, you are always walking on a hard surface, it is not an epic mountain climb.

Even better are the trips you can make on the lake ships.

Last year I was 79 and walked 11

Km on the other side of the lake from Wengen.
