First use of the suicide capsule in Schaffhausen

The article states that he died in Germany - so I guess…no.

BTW, every time that I read the title of this threat, I cannot stop thinking about ‘the other suicide capsule’…the one that fell out of fashion, but was widely used in the first part of the XX century…

Cyanide? I think it was not a coincidence to call it the same way.

nope.
It was taken from the Egyptian “sarcophagus”.

There was a case in the UK a few years ago when a woman applied to Dignitas, got accepted but was talked out of going by her family. She didn’t go and a few years later she is still so happy she didn’t kill herself.

More in this BBC article.

"The pod’s inventor Philip Nitschke told BBC News that Dr Willet died by assisted suicide in Germany.

In a separate statement, Mr Nitschke said Dr Willet had suffered psychological trauma following his arrest and detention in connection with the Switzerland death."

“Prior to his death on 5 May, Dr Willet fell from a third-floor window, the group said, leaving him requiring surgery and needing to be “cared for by a full psychiatric team”.”

Never understood why assisted suicide or state executions do this techno-killing when a .50cal to the noggin is quick, cheap and easy and there is no discussion afterwards if the person is dead.

Ever seen the mess that makes?

Assisted suicide has to be self-administered, and providing a firearm would be a criminal offence anyway.

As for executions, barbaric as they are, I’ve often wondered why they can’t give a shot of whatever they use for general anaesthesia then an overdose of something that would stop the heart. Even overdoing the anaesthesia drug would induce death fairly quickly.

ETA - just answered my own question. Practicing/licenced medics can’t administer lethal doses of drugs.

There’s that little issue of people getting the “help” while not agreeing to being “helped”. Not smart to create dozens of potential crime scenes.

Yeah, I understand the ramifications buuuut, if all the legal blah blah blah has been sussed out then why not a Bowden operated system where the person can yank… boom! Splat!
Have a nice room out of stainless steel, easy to pressure wash and squeegee out by some hardened Lag on need of „correction!“

Enter NIMBY. Can you imagine having to deal with neighbors making objections to block the construction permit to build and operate that? There goes the neighborhood

Wait a min…a ship outside territorial waters :light_bulb:

If the public are already squeamish about a Disney-style death in a comfy capsule in a leafy forest, I’m not sure they’d go for your “boom/splat” version.

Hopefully it was painless

Oooo yes! I like your thinking. No need to worry about disposal afterwards, chuck the remains overboard, feed the fishes, eco-friendly recycling.
Even the greenies would like that.

I suppose it’s just a matter how you sell it to the people.

Yes! Make it sacrilegious.

Capital punishment is simply unacceptable in all cases, but particularly when it is applied solely to the poor and the non-whites.

Assisted suicide and Euthanasia is acceptable provided there is no coercion. If a person wants to go we should help them.

Problem is one can easily be brainwashed
