They aren't cheap. They look cr@p.... but based on what I can tell, being a non-permanent structure I could shove one on the driveway without any permissions (from neighbors or otherwise), right?
So after looking at options for a wooden carport (and the paperwork nightmare), I'm considering what to me looks like a tent:
My first thought is that it would collapse if there is any significant snowfall, which kind of defeats the purpose. Surely you want it for protecting your car from the elements, particularly in winter? Doesn't look nearly robust enough to me. Seems more a thing for warmer climates where dust and rain are your primary concerns.
Also, given that it's white I can imagine it would start to look grimy pretty quickly.
Probably wrong. IIRC a garden shed for instance can't me bore than 6m2 in ZH and must be less than 2.5m (or 3m?) high, or something like that. Otherwise it needs a building permit. One criteria for "permanent" is, being fastened securely to the ground with the intent to lastingly change the way you use the property.
Besides, that tent has the profile of an aeroplane wing, it looks like it has the potential to create massive uplift force. Make sure it's fastened very well, probably even if it's protected from the strongest winds by flora and buildings.
On one hand, the thing weights 100kg. If there isn’t enough gap between the fabric and the floor (which seems to be the case), it may very well hold on its own weight. On the other hand, the manufacturer says it should be fastened with the 7 provided concrete anchors, especially to prevent damage in case of wind (they also warn against rain and snow).
