Food-grade buckets (i.e. manufacturing Bakery in Zurich)

Dear all,

we are in a little dire situation; we will be harvesting our honey tomorrow, and we do not have enough food-grade containers (plastic buckets) to store it (temporarily, as it has to ' cure' for several days until we can pack it in glasses ).

I know that bakeries get these buckets for cream, butter and the alike -and they throw it away. Unfortunately, the bakeries that I have visited here in Zurich with my limited German tell me that they do not ' manufacture', so they don't have these buckets.

Any tip on where I could find a ' manufacturing' bakery where I could buy them? All of our attempts to buy in Zurich have been in vain. All selling is made ' online' and the buckets come from Germany...in 10 days!

Thanks for any tip :-)

Your local beekeeper,

Izzy

Was curious, so did a bit of a search. Would something like this work? 1-2 days delivery, but you could pick up at a local branch immediately.

Thanks Nick! i also looked in obi, baumaxx and the alikes - unfortunately, the buckets are not labeled ' food grade', so we cannot use them for the honey.

I have found food-grade ' fass' in Jumbo, but the spits that they hold are for more liquid fluids, so we might put the honey in... but no way to make it flow out!

thanks for your help ,nonetheless!

Alligro has different sized buckets and plastic containers in the food section often.

Good luck.

Your local beekeeper Verein might be worth a shot. Perhaps someone could lend you what you need. Search for Imkerverein

In the same vein swisshoney.ch, who sells domestic honey will have the same need as OP, and maybe a few buckets to spare. You can search by proximity.

Alternatively Kanton Zug's (Zürichs) Bieneninspektorat, the overseeing body. They will know who has lots of bees as every beehive needs to be registered.

There is a place in Neuchatel that has them.

Here are some for sale on apimat.ch that appear to be specifically used for honey:

I have no idea how long the shipping would take, but it looks like the company is based in Switzerland (Neuenburg to be exact).

Aren't the blue 60l drums food grade? The ones with the black lids available are coop bau & hobby? Otherwise landi?
