My question about paying voluntarily into swiss pension still stands - I already have paid for the last four years - Can I pay going forward or in the past and is it worthwile doing like it is in the UK
Sorry I am back in the UK now and have worked in the UK for ten years already in my career
The conditions for being allowed to contribute voluntarily are set out in post 11, above.
Indeed they are but brexit complicates things somewhat as sometimes it is treated as in europe and sometimes outside europe
The figure sounds about right. I get 400 a month IV. I don't think there's a qualification period for AHV like there is for IV. My UK contributing years made no difference to my calculations. I believe there was some new agreement with the UK but for me has made no difference. It seems it's still all done separately.
IV doesn’t work the same way as the retirement pension.
My husband had a total of 4.5 years contributions over two different time periods which on it’s own technically isn’t enough to qualify for a German pension however the contributions made in other countries are taken into account and he does receive a small German pension every month. The paperwork involved was painful and time consuming and it took a long time to get it sorted out as the German pension office were very demanding and slow. They did backdate it to the date he became eligible to claim it once it was sorted out though.
Well it does and it doesn't (for Pillar 1) in that it's related to how much you earn t and how many years you've paid in/would have paid in.
It's pretty depressing when you see how little you will get - even more so when you consider that after inflation, it will be much less than it appears.
isn't it going to be indexed over the years to account for inflation? At least to some extent... I hope
I think its quite a lot. Esp in the UK. Inflation shouldnt be a big deal as it should get indexed.
If you pay lets say £160 a year for 35 years in to the UK system = 5,600. Lets even round that to 6k total contribution for a return of 10k a year from retirement to death
Remember 160 pound is lot less than it used to be when you are paying in CHF
You take 2,300 CHF a month and lets say you get 3/4 of the full amount - about 21k CHF
Thats £17k + £10k = £27k only in state pension without making any effort and the UK minimum wage is 14k. Even in CHF its about 33k CHF - which in itself is low but that makes up only one of the 3 pillars in the Swiss system
