Diesel is out of favour and Richdog needs to sell the thing at some point in time. A no-brainer actually.
Why? Isnt it really "default"?
Nobody buys a new (as in, not second-hand) car if they're worried about resale value.
Who is buying a brand new car at RRP? Why would 're-sale value not matter'?
Are you really so bored that you are just posting silly things to get a reaction now?
Who said anything about RRP (and outside of latest model supercar buyers, who even pays RRP?!)?
But on the subject of new cars,
If you're concerned about depreciation/resale value, you'll buy a 4-5-year-old car. And if you want "newer technology", you'll get far more from a 5-year-old prestige car than a 2016/2017 cheap VW.
But I'm sure you've bought and sold dozens of cars in your life. Carry on.
What makes you think I'm posting any differently to my usual style?
A VW Golf 1.8 TSI Alltrack 4Motion isn't exactly cheap and when it comes to technology as in consumer tech - the fun toys in a car... no. A cheap new car might for example have Apple CarPlay and even the most expensive 5 year olds wont.
The kids these days care more about their car syncing with WhatsApp than anything else...
No, If I care about depreciation I buy a 1-2 year old car that has already dropped 30-40%. A 5 year old 'prestige car' does not have either the warranty or all of the cabin technology that I want.
Good point, but the only problem is that it is literally impossible to ignore mods, so you would think you would act like slightly less of a twonk considering that everyone is literally forced on a technical level to read your posts with no other option.
Yep, tech has progressed nicely in the last 5 years. Do you need it for driving? Nope. Does it make driving more pleasurable and convenient? Hell yes.
A fifty year old VW has all of the warranty and cabin technology that I need.
Tom
I've bought an Audi A6 just last week that has lost 85% of it's value (for some reason Audis with a V6 gasoline and 4WD are not so popular on the market).
Ok, technologically it is not on the very latest status as I had to buy the dongle for bluetooth music streaming separately for $15 and it has only DAB without +. Apart from that it is full options and in very good condition. Top class car for the price of a new Dacia.
You are one impressive human being Tom, we are all in awe of your manly magnificence that you feel the need to remind people of in every thread possible. We salute you.
No-one said a 5+ year old car isn't good, it's just not what I want. So please, all you guys with 5+ year old cars I am happy for you but there is no need to keep posting telling me how great they are because I do believe you.
Who literally forces you literally to read every post I write with literally no other option? Literally?
At the risk of getting my choice derided: the Vauxhall (Opel) Mokka Elite with intelligent 4WD is pretty good. It's a compact SUV basically. Tech fully loaded.
Too bad. I was planning to write a poem about the 5+ year old Nissan Qashqai that ages like good wine.
I'll admit that I did not drive the "Elite" version, but the Mokka was the second worst modern car I drove as a rental only beaten by the Renault Captur. Happy to add that I never drove one of the Citroens others mentioned, but if Richdog is looking for a decent car and compares a pretty good VW estate with the equivalent Audis is the Mokka nowhere near.
The only Opel that fits the bill would be the Insignia 4 x 4. Which is according to the critics the best car coming from Opel for a long time. (Which does not exactly mean a lot...)
Because (although this should be pretty self-explanatory to anyone with some basic common sense) if something is written in front of me (especially i a sequence of posts) then I, like the vast majority of people, automatically scan and digest it very quickly, especially within a logical series of downwards-scrolling posts.
I can't really explain apart from I'm tall and couldn't find a good position..I usually rest my accelerator pedal leg against the center console and that was really uncomfortable in the golf.
Well, the VW Golf is known for having a good driving position. How tall are you?
a) users who double quote and
b) mods who merge posts
making it impossible to use the threaded display mode.
We debated that about a decade ago and concluded that EF users and mods are too stupid for it... so we are stuck with the linear display mode which literally forces you to read every post on a topic, no matter if some people have some derailed side discussion or not.
Only way to fix it is to put the usual suspects on ignore. "That's the truth", or as they say in Sanskrit: Om Tat Sat.
Not if you have it set to 'newest posts first'.
Tom
Not that tall but still taller than you even with an animatronic roast chicken hat on
