Game over

Get onto it ASAP. We know from experience that the Germans are painfully slow.

The mill wheels are already grinding.

At some point, you should tell yourself that you’ve worked enough and deserve to take a break.

The very real fear of poverty as a pensioner in Germany is at the forefront of my mind. Especially with all the political mumblings of pension reforms which mean in real words, reduced pensions in favor of buying weapons and supporting Ukraine.
Rising prices, unaffordable rent and the general vibe of pensioners being a burdon on society dont help one bit.
Many pensioners, or like me, running up to pension are talking about leaving Germany and going to Bulgaria ect.

I guess the main problem is rent. If you owned your own home I guess €1k per month would be pretty decent in Germany. Even more so if you have further pensions from other countries.

At one time, I was looking at potentially moving to Germany from the UK (but ended up in Switzerland instead) and property prices where I was looking were quite reasonable at that time (even if transaction charges were extortionate). I haven’t looked since, but I’m guessing house prices went crazy like everywhere else.

I looked at that but a German friend convinced me to stay in Switzerland with much lower mortgage rates and to live near the border to benefit from lower German prices and lower Swiss purchase costs

From Google AI; German mortgage rates currently hover around 3.76% for 10-year fixed loans and 4.00% for 15-year terms. .

A colleague is German and lives just over the border of Basel. He bought his house in Germany and has effectively got massive pay rises due to the CHF strengthening vs EUR (over 50% in the last 15-20 years).

Has his buying power increased or been hit by inflation

May your phone one day ring.

Funny that, I am probably the last person who can repair Esko’s platedriver and I did go looking for the remaining installed units…
