The Interclub season is round the corner with this Sunday as a starting date and three consecutive weekends of tennis in most of the clubs will keep you busy (some dates might be shifted upon agreement with captains of other clubs). I would like to wish you best of luck in all your "battles on the clay" and please keep in mind the "golden rules" and try to follow the below tips: be prepared to play long points (its not a joke be patient working out your winner step by step) enhance your repertoir of shots (vary your startegy and do not allow yourself to play your opponet's game) your physical fitness determines your mental toughness (drink water and energy drinks to boost your power and do not think negative e.g. 0:5 down it is not match over yet) proper footwork is king (always make sure your timing to the ball is right and do not allow laziness overpower you) More information you can find here:

Hey, I have a question! If a girl (aged 18-19) wants to come an play tennis in Switzerland, how can she join a club without having any income. How can she pay for all of it, if she does not want to ask money for her parents and wants to manage herself? She is quite talneted and wants to come and live with her boyfriend but dont want to live on his money too!?

I tried to find yout about my next tournament Tableau and clicked on www.mytennis.ch that does not work anymore Has anyone concerned noticed that www.mytennis.ch from today changed into www.swisstennis.ch . ? The new site works a bit slow but you can login there as well using the same username as previously. For instance you can check your torurnament results. Let me know if you experienced the same or is it just temporary change of the site? It looks like they migrated the site.
There have been some comments about the costs of playing tennis in Switzerland. Actually from my point of view I don't find it too bad. I play in a club in Winterthur for about CHF 500 a year a year (there was no entry fee). For that I can play every day if I want from April till November without any extras. My two sons are also members at CHF 50 a year including tennis course. Playing in tennis centres is pretty expensive here and I play badminton instead. The tennis licence always annoys me. You don't need it but if you want to play some matches or a tournament or two you'll need one. Luckily my club doesn't have too many members so you can usually play for about 2 hours without being disturbed. Finding the club that suits you is important and some tennis clubs are still quite snobby. My club is full of "Ausländer" like me who happen to be mad keen on tennis which suits me fine
Cost of tennis in summer season is quite affordable. Both, me and my wife pay smilar amount or even slightly lower CHF450 a person. If you join as a couple it is usually CHF100 cheaper but you have to be a memebr of the same club, which in our case is not. The winter is a bit tricky, but you can also get affordable Winterpass under bubble on clay court and split it between interested parties.
The most expensive are tournaments and indoor carpet courts rental. You can cut the costs by applying for a Fixplatz paying upfront for entire season but then if you cannot come you'll loose your money. The best is to get to know the people with similar skills and interests who can commit and play together on regular basis. I consider myself as a fanatic of this sport and I already spend about CHF300 a month in winter to play twice a week and enter tournament once or twice a month.

I've been playing tennis all my life, am now retired, but still play about 8 hours a week. Played interclub for a Zürich club for close to 30 years (1st and C leagues and Senior B league). Played tons of tournaments in the Zurich area, am now in Lugano. It is a great sport! Can't do without it...

Just a reminder to everyone who is not familar with club system in Switzerland yet. The opening dates will start soon end of April/ beginning of May so those who are interested in joining the clubs for the whole season, they should start signing for membership in your respective locations. You can identify clubs under: www.swisstennis.ch Go to Club/Centre and enter name of your location of preference under Suchbegriff (search word) or Ort (place). You should be able to identify a club nearest to your location and its contact details.

Six months ago I decided to learn the tennis basics the right way. In fact I had never taken lessons before, but "just played". So I made up my mind to take some private lessons and I found Fadzi here in this forum.
Now it's six months that I am taking lessons (1 hour per week) and I feel like I have definitely improved. Still a long way to go imo, but it is nice when you can see the improvements. Just wanted to say that Fadzi is a good teacher: competent, patient and with the ability to push you ahead when needed. As an example, I like the fact that she adapts the way she hits the ball to my skills: now that I have improved she hammers her shots back to make me deserve my points

There is a good selection of tennis clubs in Bern. See the Bern Tennis list here .
At the posh end of the social tennis spectrum, there are three clubs next to each other near the Tierpark, at the back of Jubiläumsstrasse. The main one is TC Dahlhölzli, which has a good reputation, the best teams and some very good coaches. The smaller TC Sporting Club Bern and TC Rotweiss are next door. TC Neufeld, which is up near the Gymnasium Neufeld, is less posh, but friendly and a good place for serious amateur players. There are also lots of other good clubs (see link above).
For serious tennis lessons and coaching, I can recommend TC Dahlhölzli, and particularly Andi Strasser, who coached our son for a while. But I wouldn't recommend Michel Kratochvil, who runs the TC Flamingo in Ostermundigen and TC Sagi in Bolligen. Kratochvil was a good tennis player (ATP 35), but he is now trying to cash in on his reputation as a player. Don't be taken in by the Kratochvil PR. Michel is not a qualified coach, and he runs a chaotic Tennis Academy with a very high turnover of staff and pupils. He is also very expensive (lots of hidden costs).
However, there's no getting away from it: tennis is a very expensive sport here, particularly coaching. Our son plays seriously, and the costs are roughly three times what they were in the UK. Incidentally, when he left the Kratochvil Tennis Academy he went to Swiss Tennis in Biel, which I can highly recommend for any budding Roger Federer.
