German Visa, UK citizen in Switzerland

Hi all,

I am currently working in Switzerland, but due to be made redundant and unemployed by May of 23.

I have been looking for alternatives for some time, and have a very interested party in Germany.

I mentioned to them that as a UK citizen I will need a working visa for Germany. They will take it up with their HR.

I will remain based in Switzerland.

Has anyone been through that process? Is it tortuous for them?

I ask as there are so many often clearly ill-informed and emotional views on how easy or difficult it is to get visa's in the EU post Brexit. It's difficult to tell, and also challenging to find something official on it.

(I've checked the German BAMF immigration site).

So I thought I'd ask if anyone has been through this process and I can stop stressing about getting another position lined up...

It's director level, and very specialised (the latter will help I think as it's not a common position). Can mostly work remote.

Do you want to move to Germany or stay in Switzerland? I could imagine that Anobag might be an option in Switzerland. Does the company have a presence in CH at all? If not, you may have to move to Germany (and give up your CH residence) otherwise your presence in CH could constitute a presence of the company, against their will.

Best if you can get some good professional advice, I'd say (and not all professional advice for international situations is always good). Otherwise maybe join the British in Germany Facebook group - there may be some knowledgeable people on there

You could also join the German partner of this forum, look in the top right hand corner of the EF home page.

Remember that Germany is composed of a number of federal states which often have different regulations so be sure to ask about the state where your employer is located.
