I would encourage you to visit Mulhouse before you decide. It certainly isn't for me.
There are plenty of beautiful villages closer to the Swiss border, which would be my first choice. With their lack of French, you could enroll the children in one of the bilingual classes (French / German) as a way of easing them into the system as well as maintaining their German language skills.
If you're working in Basel, you've got all that Basel has to offer on your doorstep...
Thank you very much , we will We definitely visit the area.
Do you know any of the small villages where the education system is Bilingual ?
Do you have any Experience of crossing the bordereach morning formFrance Switzerland is it realy very busy ?
thanks again
A friend of mine lives in St Louis and seems pretty happy. Worth looking there
thanks i will check that option as well :-)
Hi.
I would not recommend mulhouse at all. It is one of the poorest cities in France with some social problems. Saint Louis is very practical but there are also behaviour problems at college. Would recommend hegenheim, hesingue or blotzheim.
I would need to double-check which of the villages here have bilingual schools, but I think most of the larger villages do. Here is the complete list of
bilingual schools in Haut Rhin .
Of those listed, here are the ones that are most likely candidates:
Bartenheim & Sierentz are nice, residential villages that are a very short commute from Basel directly down the main motorway. Sierentz is a little bigger and has more in the way of shops etc.
Heading out the other way, Hegenheim, Hesingue, Folgensbourg, and Ferrette are all nice villages. They range from 10 minutes from Basel to 30 minutes from Basel, but along small roads rather than the motorway. Folgensbourg is entirely residential (no shops) but the others all have at least basic facilities (post office, grocery store, etc)
St. Louis itself isn't very attractive, but neighboring Village Neuf is pleasant enough, if a little cookie-cutter. It's a very short commute to the border, especially if you work at Novartis, where it's practically next door.
Commuting by motorway can sometimes be prone to delays and hold-ups in traffic, and the main motorway crossing into Switzerland can be slow in the morning (particularly Monday mornings) as the trucks line up to clear customs. Crossing on the small crossings is always an alternative. Aside from that, there's not much traffic to speak of and commuting is generally easy. You're very unlikely to be stopped going into/out of Switzerland on local French plates -- since moving to France two years ago, I haven't been stopped once.
first thank you very much for your help , i have a few more questoins , i would like to know if i can send them privetly ?
thanks
